Attention to coffee lovers! The Fujian Provincial Consumer Council conducted a comparative test on 59 freshly made and sold coffees from 20 coffee sales units in Fuzhou City, and all of them detected low levels of Class 2A carcinogens, and the samples involved "Luckin" and "Starbucks" ......

In order to implement the theme of the China Consumers Association's "Boosting Consumer Confidence" Consumer Rights Protection Year, let consumers get more objective and practical information about freshly made and sold coffee, and guide consumers to scientifically, In August 2023, the Fujian Provincial Consumer Rights Protection Commission and the Fuzhou Municipal Consumer Rights Protection Committee conducted a comparative test of coffee sales venues and takeaway coffee products on takeaway platforms in some commercial blocks of Fuzhou through online and offline methods, and entrusted Fuzhou Customs Technology Center to conduct the test.

Some samples were sampled in the picture above.

In this comparative test, the provincial and municipal consumer councils entrusted relevant staff to sample 59 freshly made and sold coffees from 20 coffee sales units in Fuzhou (including 30 offline and 29 online) through in-store consumption and take-out platform orders as ordinary consumers, and the samples involved 20 mainstream brands in the market, including "Luckin", "Starbucks", "Lucky Coffee" and "Cotti Coffee", including American coffee, Different categories such as lattes and flavored lattes basically cover the freshly made and sold coffee products on the market.

In this comparative test, 8 items of the sample were tested, including energy, carbohydrates, protein, fat, trans fatty acids, total sugars, caffeine, and acrylamide. Judging from the results of this test:

1.None of the 59 samples were found to contain trans fatty acids (less than 0.).0013g 100g detection limit).

2.In the detection of protein, fat and other items, the detection amount of most products is relatively stable, which basically meets the requirements of the national healthy diet recommendation, and the milk and dairy products added to coffee are of good quality.

3.In the test items such as energy, sugar, caffeine, acrylamide, etc., the test results of each product are quite different, which is worthy of research and consumer attention.

Among the 59 samples, the energy test results were high and low, and the energy of a cup of coffee was higher than 1 6 of the energy required by an adult woman in a dayTwo Americano and two lattes were labelled as "sugar-free", but two of the latte samples were found to contain sugar that exceeded the standard's maximum limit for "sugar-free".Caffeine testing showed that the caffeine content of 4 of the samples was less than 200mg kg, which was slightly inferior in terms of refreshing effectIt is worth noting that low levels of class 2A carcinogen "acrylamide" were detected in all 59 samples (at present, there are no restrictive or prohibited regulations on acrylamide in coffee).

In response to the results of this comparative test, the Fujian Provincial Consumer Council and the Fuzhou Municipal Consumer Council issued a consumption reminder to remind consumers that freshly made and sold coffee has a mellow and fragrant taste, but it should not be drunk too much, and should be drunk scientifically and reasonably. When buying freshly made and sold coffee, you need to pay attention to the following:

1. Consumers should learn Xi understand some basic coffee knowledge before consuming coffee, such as common coffee classifications and differences (such as Americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha, etc.), understand the difference between Arabica and Robusta coffee beans, and pay attention to the relatively high energy and sugar content of coffee with added milk, flavored syrup and other raw materials.

2. When buying coffee, consumers should pay attention to check whether there are any sugar, caffeine and other warnings on the menu or takeaway platform options, and choose the right coffee products according to their personal taste preferences and physical condition. Pregnant and lactating women, children, adolescents and other sensitive groups should try not to drink or reduce the consumption of coffee.

3. Do not drink too much coffee for a long time, according to the safe daily intake of caffeine does not exceed 400mg, generally 1 to 2 cups a day, which is relatively safe. At the same time, coffee contains caffeine, oxalic acid and other substances, excessive drinking will affect the absorption of calcium, increase the risk of osteoporosis, make the human body excited for a long time, insomnia, anxiety, and in severe cases, it will also cause depression, memory loss and other problems.

Fourth, develop the right way to drink coffee. The temperature of coffee drinking water should be well controlled, and it is best not to exceed 65 degrees, otherwise it will affect the oral mucosa, gastrointestinal mucosa, and even cause mucosal damage. Pay attention to the time you drink your coffee, try to choose it after your meal, and avoid drinking coffee at night before going to bed or in the morning on an empty stomach. It is not advisable to drink coffee after drinking, people will enter a state of high energy after drinking, if you drink coffee again, it will only aggravate the excited state of the human body, and the damage to human organs is great.

At the same time, it is recommended that all freshly made and sold coffee merchants should strictly control the quality of raw materials such as coffee bean powder, milk, syrup, etc., and warn or make clear labels on the product sales catalog for products with higher sugar content such as vanilla latte, caffeine content and unsuitable people, etc., for consumers to choose for reference.

Coffee science knowledge

The difference between the four coffees, Americano, Cappuccino, Latte, and Mocha, is mainly reflected in how they are made and the materials used.

Americano: It is made by diluting the espresso with a lot of water on the basis of espresso. Because Americans are not used to drinking concentrate, they will dilute it with boiling water.

Cappuccino: This is made by adding milk and milk foam to the espresso base. Cappuccino is characterized by a high ratio of milk to milk foam, a rich taste, and a thick layer of milk foam on top.

Latte: It is made by mixing espresso and milk without the addition of milk foam. The latte has a softer texture than a cappuccino because it doesn't have as much milk foam.

Mocha Coffee: Mocha is made by adding ingredients such as chocolate sauce, milk, and whipped cream to espresso. Mocha's name is due to its unique chocolate flavor, which is first fruity in the mouth, then sweet and cocoa, and finally cocoa in the mouth.
