The devil came to Qiaolin on the ninth night of the winter month of **26 (1937). At that time, Zhang Xiaoheng (in his 50s), the chief of the security guard (Kuomintang), happened to be by the river, and when he saw the devil coming, he lay down. When the devil saw him lying down, he thought he had a gun, so he all lay down. He was with a few people at the time, all of whom had guns, so he fought with the devils, and the devils were all scared away after a few ***. On the ninth day of the first month of winter, Lin Laosan, who was gambling with Li Mazhao in the Qiaolin Sandy Land, heard that the devil was coming, ran out of the house, and was shot dead after being seen by the devil. Lin Laosan is a native of Shun Village, Dongbei, Qiaolin. There are several people in Steep Gang who were flooded by devils for fun, including Fang Tongzhou, Zheng Zongyuan, Du Baoda, etc. The three of them were carrying water for men, and when the devil passed by and saw them, he grabbed them and tied them to the bench and poured water on them. Next to Qiaolin Elementary School, Chengtang (where monks and Taoists live) near Dongyuan Temple was burned by devils. On March 17 of the following year, Qiaolin was bombed, and the devil threw four bombs. When the devil lived in Qiaolin, everyone in the village was inexplicably suffering from poisonous sores and playing tricks, which affected their normal life, but no one died because of it.
