The situation here has become more tense since the U.S. military killed 10 people in the Red Sea, but the White House has no intention of resting.
According to the Global Times, the United States has rallied in a dozen other countries, warning in a joint statement that "the Houthis will face consequences if they continue to threaten lives, the global economy, and the free flow of commerce in the region's critical waterways." Even the United States** has said that the US military is ready for a plan to further combat the Houthis. It is clear that the United States is ready to attack the Houthis in the name of "maintaining stability".
But what we need to know is that fighting the Houthis is not an easy task for the United States. On the one hand, the United States needs to contend not only with the Houthis, but also with other major powers in the region, such as Iran. On the other hand, the US military operation in the Red Sea has attracted widespread attention and suspicion from the international community, and further attacks on the Houthis may put the US in a more passive situation internationally.
Moreover, the Houthis are not lambs to be slaughtered. Not only do they have advanced equipment, but they also have backers behind them, and they will not remain indifferent in the face of the American threat. If the United States does take further military action, it is likely to trigger a larger conflict, or even a regional war. Therefore, "maintaining stability" is just a pretext for the United States.
So what is the purpose of the United States to warn the Houthis with 12 countries?
I think there are two things.
First, the United States is trying to strengthen its influence and position in the Middle East by demonstrating the power of the League of Nations. By uniting 12 other countries, the United States is trying to show that its actions in the region are not unilateral but supported by the international community. Of course, to put it mildly, this is a bit self-defeating.
Secondly, the United States is trying to put more pressure on the Houthis. Through the joint statement and warning, the United States hopes to force the Houthis to stop their strikes against Israeli ships in the Red Sea, thereby safeguarding U.S. and Israeli interests in the region.
As for whether the Houthis listen or not, the United States does not care, because in any case, the United States cannot afford to lose. On the one hand, if the Houthis are shocked and relent, it is exactly what the United States wantsOn the other hand, if the Houthis are provoked and retaliate against, then the United States will not have much to lose, after all, the US mainland is far away, and at most it is only those military bases that have been bombed back and forth, and it will suffer a little. As for the 12 countries behind the United States, especially those in Europe, I am afraid that it is not so good.
In the final analysis, the United States still "sold" Europe, and after a single operation, it could not solve the problem by drawing wages from the bottom of the kettle, but instead turned Europe into one of the victims.
China's judgment on the current tensions in the Red Sea is more reasonable. Not long after the United States and 12 countries warned the Houthis, Ambassador Geng Shuang said at the UN Security Council that to prevent further escalation of the situation in the Red Sea, a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities should be achieved in Gaza as soon as possible. This sentence not only illustrates the fundamental way to solve the problem, but also exposes the conspiracy and calculation behind the US action.
