The first major event: **The general secretary inspected the Zhedong Canal Cultural Park
On September 20, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China and the chairman of the Military Commission came to the Zhedong Canal Cultural Park in Shaoxing for inspection. He inspected the ancient canal and the surrounding historical and cultural relics on foot, and learned in detail about the development and evolution of the Zhedong Canal, the rational use of water resources in the local area, and the promotion of the protection of the Grand Canal. **Emphasizing that the Grand Canal is the longest man-made canal in the world and is a very valuable cultural heritage. The Grand Canal culture is an important part of China's excellent traditional culture, and efforts should be made to protect, inherit and utilize it, so that the ancient Grand Canal can glow with a new style of the times.
The second major event: to promote the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt and the Grand Canal National Cultural Park was written into the "** Work Report" of the six provinces and two cities
From January to February, six provinces and two cities along the Grand Canal, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Henan, successively held the "Two Sessions", and their respective 2023 "** Work Reports" included "promoting the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt" or "building the Grand Canal National Cultural Park" and related measures. So far, 8 provincial and municipal radiation areas, 40 prefecture-level and city-level expansion areas and 150 county-level (district, municipal) core areas along the Grand Canal have listed the protection, inheritance and utilization of the Grand Canal culture as an important agenda.
The third major event: the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has once again been fully watered
On April 4, with the slow opening of the South Canal Control Gate of the Sinusi Hub in Wucheng County, Shandong Province, the South Canal Control Gate of the Jiuxuan Gate Hub and the Xinkai River Ear Gate in Tianjin were synchronized with this, and the water supply sources of the Zhanghe River, the first phase of the North Extension Project of the East Line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and the water supply of the Luan River flowed to the relevant section of the Yellow River north of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. So far, 707 kilometers of the north section of the Yellow River of the Grand Canal have been completed, which is the second time that the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has been opened to water. The Ministry of Water Resources, in conjunction with Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong, has carried out the work of connecting the whole line of water flow, and the groundwater level within 5 kilometers of the water supply channel has risen by 1 on average33 meters, further exerting the comprehensive benefits of the eastern route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and further improving the ecological environment of rivers and lakes along the Grand Canal.
The fourth major event: the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei People's Congress carried out coordinated supervision of the Grand Canal for the first time
On December 8, the first joint meeting of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei People's Congress on the coordinated supervision of the Grand Canal held in Shijiazhuang determined that the people's congresses of the three places would carry out coordinated supervision around the protection and inheritance of the Grand Canal culture, and jointly find problems and promote solutions. This is the first time that the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei People's Congress has carried out coordinated supervision of the Grand Canal. The 7th event: the maiden voyage of the Grand Canal cruise ship in Beijing
On March 19, the Grand Canal cruise ship in the sub-center of Beijing sounded the whistle and started its maiden voyage. The cruise ships depart from Daguanglou Wharf, No. 2 Wharf, Caoyun Wharf and Liuyin Wharf respectively, and link the northern, central and southern districts of Beijing's Tongzhou Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Spot from the water. Since then, on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays, the ship lock experience route in the southern area and the Daguanglou wharf line in the northern district will be opened, fully displaying the Daguanglou wharf, the observation pavilion, the Gantang lock and other characteristic tourist attractions, which is convenient for tourists to experience the charm of the Grand Canal water transportation and the refreshing scenery of the sub-center of the city in all directions. On September 21, the 5th Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo opened in Suzhou. The ninth major event: a number of literary and artistic works such as the national symphonic poem "Grand Canal" are heavily presented

The 10th major event: Huai'an, the capital of canals, strives to build a "river of prosperity and happiness".
Among the 20 districted prefecture-level cities along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, known as the "Canal Capital", has become the first practitioner of "Rich River, Happy River". The Huai'an Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Party Committee regard the important exposition of "River of Prosperity and Happiness" as the "present tense" and "future tense" of promoting the modernization of common prosperity for all the people, and effectively enhance the sense of gain and happiness of the people. At present, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has left more than 10,000 hectares of Grand Canal cultural heritage area and buffer zone in Huai'an, accounting for about one-seventh of the world's cultural heritage. The World Heritage Site includes 2 heritage areas and 1 river channel. The city has passed the legislation of the National People's Congress, as well as the introduction of plans, think tank research reports, printing and distributing plans, etc., to respond to the construction of "Rich River, Happy River" in an all-round way.
