The USCIS has released a 99-page immigration strategy report, and every policy adjustment may affect the direction of many people's future visa or PR applications! I believe that many students are very shocked by the recent visa reform information released by Australia**.
For many children's shoes, perhaps the biggest impact is the increase in English language requirements by USCIS. In fact, in many types of visa applications, the Australian Immigration Department has relevant English proficiency requirements.
Today, I will talk to you about the regulations of the Immigration Bureau on English proficiency. According to the official information of the Australian Immigration Department, the Immigration Department divides English proficiency into 5 types.
1、functional english
This is the minimum level of English proficiency recognized by the Australian Department of Immigration.
USCIS can accept applicants to prove their English proficiency in any of four ways.
1. Passport holders from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland. It should be noted that the Australian Immigration Department does not accept BNO passports as proof of English proficiency.
2. Completed a diploma or certificate of at least two years of study in English.
3. Completed all primary school courses and at least 3 years of secondary school courses in an English teaching environment, or completed at least 5 years of secondary school courses, or completed at least one year of full-time Xi, or equivalent to one year of full-time Xi.
4. Achieve an overall IELTS score of 4 within 1 year5, or a TOEFL iBT score of 32 (only scores taken before July 25, 2023) or a PTE score of 30 or a CAE score of 147.
2、vocational english
The Australian Department of Immigration can accept applicants to prove their English proficiency in one of two ways.
1. Passport holders from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland. It should be noted that the Australian Immigration Department does not accept BNO passports as proof of English proficiency.
2. Within 3 years, the IELTS score must be no less than 5 in each component, or the TOEFL iBT Listening and Reading score will not be less than 4 in each component, and the writing and speaking will be no less than 14 in each component (only the results before July 25, 2023 will be accepted), or the PTE will not be less than 36 in each component, or the OET will be no less than B in each component, or the CAE will be no less than 154 in each component.
3、competent english
The Australian Department of Immigration can accept applicants to prove their English proficiency in one of two ways.
1. Passport holders from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland. It should be noted that the Australian Immigration Department does not accept BNO passports as proof of English proficiency.
2. Within 3 years, the IELTS score must be no less than 6 in each component, or no less than 12 in TOEFL iBT listening, no less than 13 in reading, no less than 21 in writing and no less than 18 in speaking (only scores before July 25, 2023 will be accepted), or no less than 50 in each component of PTE, or no less than B in each component of OET, or no less than 169 in each component of CAE.
4、proficient english
For this level of English proficiency, the Australian Department of Immigration will only accept applicants who have passed a formal English test to prove their English proficiency.
IELTS scores of at least 7 in each component, or 24 in TOEFL IBT Listening and Reading with no less than 27 in writing and 23 in Speaking (only before 25 July 2023 will be accepted), or no less than 65 in each component of PTE, no less than B in each component of OET, or no less than 185 in each component of CAE.
Attaining proficient English proficiency in English can give you an extra 10 points when applying for skilled migration.
5、superior english
For this level of English proficiency, the Australian Department of Immigration will only accept applicants who have passed a formal English test to prove their English proficiency.
IELTS score of 8 or less than 8 in each of the IELTS skills, or 28 in TOEFL iBT listening, 29 in reading and 30 in writing at the same time, 26 in speaking (only before 25 July 2023 will be accepted), or 79 in each component of PTE, no less than A in each component of OET, or no less than 200 in each component of CAE.
Attaining the English proficiency of Superior English can get 20 extra points when applying for skilled migration.
It is important to note that Australia** will accept IELTS One Skill Retake results from 14 December 2022 for some visa applications. In addition, Australia will no longer accept TOEFL IBT test scores after July 26, 2023. Many children's shoes are worried about IELTS 65 Language Requirements!
