What is an EMC standard? Why do electronic devices need to do EMC certification?

Mondo Technology Updated on 2024-01-31

With the rapid development of electronic and electrical technology, the popularization and mass use in various industries, the problem of mutual interference between electronic devices can not be ignored.

At present, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) must be considered in the design of products in many industries and a key part, in medical equipment, military, aerospace, industrial control, power systems, household appliances and other industries is also a very important quality index, it is not only related to the reliability and safety of the product itself, but also may affect the normal operation of other equipment and systems related to the protection of the electromagnetic environment. In order to regulate the electromagnetic compatibility of electronic equipment, all developed countries and some developing countries have formulated electromagnetic compatibility standards.

However, no matter which country, the EMC test standards are more consistent, mainly including two requirements:

First, when the equipment or system in a certain environment is operating normally, the equipment or system can withstand electromagnetic energy interference within the scope specified in the corresponding standard, that is, EMS (electromagnetic immunity);Specifically, it includes ESD (electrostatic discharge immunity), EFT (electrical fast transient burst immunity), DIP (voltage dip and interruption), CS (radio frequency electromagnetic field induction conducted immunity), RS (radio frequency electromagnetic field radiation immunity), surge (surge shock immunity), etc.

Second, when the equipment or system in a certain environment is operating normally, it should not generate electromagnetic energy that exceeds the requirements of the corresponding standard, that is, EMI (electromagnetic interference); These include RE (Electromagnetic Wave Radiated Emission Limit), CE (Conducted Emission Limit), Harmonic, Fluctuation and Flicker (Voltage Fluctuation and Flicker).

The process of obtaining EMC certification is very strict, and only after the testing agency submits the certification application, and the product completes all the EMC tests in its standard and passes, can the testing agency obtain the test qualification report and certification certificate.

CET CLP Technology is well aware that product quality is the foundation of the enterprise, and has an electromagnetic compatibility laboratory with a site area of 1800 and more than 200 experimental instruments and equipment in hardware R&D and testing, which is approved by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment and has obtained the national accreditation of CNAS laboratory accreditation certificate, with EMC testing capabilities.

For example, the EMC laboratory can test whether our products will produce radiation and conducted interference to other surrounding electronic equipment, and shield the surrounding electromagnetic noise and climatic conditions through the anechoic chamber, so as to simulate whether the radiated interference intensity of our products meets the standard requirements in real use scenarios and whether it will affect the normal operation of other electronic equipment.

EMC laboratory can also test whether the operation of other equipment will interfere with our products, such as inductive load switching will cause pulse cluster interference, induced voltage will produce surge interference during lightning discharge, when the humidity is low, the human body will rub against other objects to produce electrostatic interference, and low-frequency interference signal formation conduction interference, etc., through EMC laboratory testing to check the operating status of our products when subjected to the above various interferences.

Our self-developed products will first go through the laboratory EMC function test to ensure that the product EMC performance is superior, and issue a test report with international mutual recognition, authority and credibility, so as to provide quality assurance for the development and production of high-quality products.

Taking the PMC-751X protection measurement and control device as an example, the device adopts a standard 6U, one-third wide chassis size, fully enclosed metal chassis, and the emission test conforms to GB T 1459826 (IEC 60255-26) Chapter 5;The immunity test is in accordance with GB T 1459826 (IEC 60255-26) Chapter 6. The electromagnetic environment is a Class A harsh electrical environment. The acceptance criteria are Criterion A and an EMC test certificate has been obtained from Cape Laboratories.

CET has won high recognition from customers for its excellent product quality and high-quality customer service, CET provides 10-year quality assurance for all its device products, and in the future, CET will continue to move forward with high-quality products and services, please pay attention to more details"CET CLP Technology".
