Leaders, guests, volunteers and friends
Hello everyone! The Handbook of Volunteer Disability Services was officially released today.
The framework of the Handbook was developed in 2008. At that time, in order to meet the needs of the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games volunteer training for the disabled, the Volunteer Department of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee organized a group of domestic authoritative experts and scholars, focusing on long-term development, based on an international perspective, on the basis of combing and summarizing the practical experience and theoretical research results of the previous disability assistance service, specially drafted volunteer training materials for the volunteers of the Games, and laid the foundation for the knowledge of volunteer disability service. The successful training of volunteers for the two Olympic Games in 2008 and the resulting lessons were hailed as "milestones" by the then IPC President Mr. Craven, and were incorporated into the IPC's database to guide other regions in hosting Paralympic events.
Subsequently, through the practice of volunteer training for the 2010 Asian Games for the Disabled and the National Games for the Disabled in Guangzhou, the teaching materials for the disability assistance service have been continuously enriched and improved.
In 2015, the China Association of Volunteers for the Disabled was established, and with the support of the Organizing Department of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, the association once again invited a team of Olympic volunteers to collect and sort out the practical experience of the vast number of volunteers for the disabled, further enriched the relevant content of volunteer assistance services, and published the "Volunteer Assistance for the Disabled Work Manual".
In recent years, the concept of civilized disability assistance has been more deeply popularized in the whole society, and there have been many new changes in the service methods and technologies and skills of disability assistance. Volunteers from all over the country have also reported that there is an urgent need to learn Xi master new knowledge and skills of helping the disabled, and they need to receive professional guidance. In 2020, the China Association of Volunteers for the Disabled decided to revise the Handbook to meet the needs of volunteers and the disabled, and named it the Handbook of Volunteer Disability Services.
The handbook is about 150,000 words and is divided into three parts, including the basic concepts of volunteering for the disabled, the knowledge and skills of volunteering for the disabled, and the appendix. The Handbook not only has considerable theoretical depth, but also highlights the skills and knowledge that need to be mastered by the disability service, and is the most complete and comprehensive Xi teaching material for the disability service, which has a guiding role for the disability service staff and volunteers, hoping to popularize the concept of disability service, promote volunteers to change their service attitude, and enhance humanitarian emotions to play their due value.
During the revision of the manual, the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games volunteer expert team continued to support, the relevant departments and directly affiliated units of the China Disabled Persons' Federation provided a lot of consultation and guidance, all the expert teachers have to respond, have to answer questions, and revise the relevant manuscripts in their busy schedules, some teachers will have their latest lesson plans, the latest **, The latest published articles provide us with reference, many disabled people and their relatives and friends actively participate in the discussion, providing a lot of good suggestions and opinions, some Winter Olympics volunteers will give us timely feedback on their own service practice, all hope that the "manual" will be more perfect, some teachers not only participate in their own but also mobilize their relatives to draw illustrations for the "manual", and in the revision process, all participants are "bring their own dry food" No one has ever asked for remuneration, or even offered not to sign it, so it can be said that the book itself is a concentrated embodiment of the spirit of volunteer dedication, and I hope that this spirit can be passed on to more volunteers.
Increasingly, we feel that the core and ultimate goal of volunteerism is to promote human perfection and growth. Volunteer service for the disabled is not only to solve problems and solve practical difficulties for the disabled, but also to change the attitude towards the disabled emotionally, sublimate their own moral sentiments, correctly understand the phenomenon of "disability", correctly view the social causes of the problem of "disability", become propagandists of the concept of civilization, popularize the correct concept of helping the disabled, and promote the society to change its attitude towards the disabled.
Effective volunteer service for the disabled should influence and drive the disabled, improve their sense of autonomy, give full play to their potential, strive to improve their quality and ability, participate in social life with a positive attitude, take the initiative to care for the society and others, and turn from the served to become a self-helper, and then become a helper.
There is still a long way to go to achieve such a goal, and as the China Association of Volunteers for the Disabled and its affiliated training committee, we will spare no effort and do our best.
I hope to continue to receive strong support from all walks of life and all of you!
Thank you!Director of the Training Committee of the China Association of Volunteers for the Disabled.
Han Runfeng. December 5, 2023.
