The core of Michael Jordan's iconic sneaker line is still a high-performance basketball shoe, but it goes beyond hardwood. Nike has brought the triumphant legacy of '23 into the designs of countless other sports and lives, with the most daring choice yet for women: the Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn.
The new silhouette in the Jumpman collection combines Peter Moore's signature basketball shoe upper with a sturdy "forward-facing" platform sole that easily adds a few inches of height to any wearer. Air Jordan's boots aren't new – Jordan's Future Boot and AJ1 Jester XX from 2016 and 2018 immediately come to mind – but the unveiled shoes elevate lifestyle bets.
The boots feature a "triple black" look reminiscent of the Air Jordan 4 "Black Cat" that debuted in 2006 and is very similar to the popular military-style design. The Air Jordan 1 upper goes beyond the typical 9 lace holes and features a healthy 12 lace holes that help cover most of the shins. There is a canvas tab on the spine that helps to get into the boot while further cementing its tactical aesthetic. The Swoosh logo falls on the silhouette and works in tandem with the overlays at the forefoot and tongue, reminiscent of Moore's 1985 design. The 'Nike Air' text on the tongue tag and insole touches further on the tradition, while also promising comfortable cushioning that is sure to entice some to expand their boot rotations.
Although the Jumpman logo and grid pattern inject some personality into the Air Jordan 1 boot's most distinctive features, at the foot, the platform sole follows the industry's extensive design cues. The all-black silhouette comes in a large box with the iconic red logo of 'His Airness' printed on it.
