This year, 30 years after the power station was put into operation, a new "first" was added - the first time to use a "domestic brain".
On December 7, the reporter learned from China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage) that China's first set of pumped storage core control system independently developed in Guangzhou and Huizhou two pumped storage power stations have been put into operation since the time of press time, the safe start has exceeded 1,500 times, and the cumulative operation has exceeded 170,000 hours. This marks the successful localization of the four types of core control subsystems of pumped storage power stations.

As the key equipment of the pumped storage power station, the core control system of the pumped storage unit is composed of four major systems: computer monitoring, speed regulation, excitation and relay protection, which is known as the "brain" of the power station.
Previously, this "brain" has always been a shortcoming of our country. Although China has achieved full localization in the field of pumped storage host equipment and a number of internationally leading technologies, the key components of the core control system still rely on imports, the update of spare parts is difficult, the control program is a "black box", and there are blind spots in the optimization of core functions.
In February 2021, China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage took the lead in setting up a R&D team, and selected two pumped storage power stations in Guangzhou and Huizhou as platforms to carry out the research and development of "component-level" domestic equipment for the four major systems.
Over the past two years, the team has gritted its teeth and made 40 major technological innovations one by one, and 21 technologies have filled the domestic gap, among which the speed control system and excitation system have passed the achievement appraisal, and the equipment performance has reached the international leading level.
