Mondo Finance Updated on 2024-01-30

Recently, China's Ministry of Science and Technology announced the results of the first batch of "China-Africa Partnership Research Institute" exchange projects, and the "China-South Africa Advanced Photovoltaic Hydrogen Energy System Research Center" partner research institute exchange project jointly declared by Hubei University of Technology and Wenda University in South Africa was approved, and the project leader is Professor Lv Hui of the School of Science (Chip Industry College) of the university.

A total of more than 500 items were declared across the country, and 10 projects were finally approved after expert review. The project is a landmark cooperation between Hubei University of Technology and Wenda University in South Africa in the field of scientific and technological exchange after the approval of the establishment of the Confucius Institute for Green Technology. It is reported that 10 universities, including Zhejiang University, China Agricultural University, Central South University and Hubei University of Technology, have been approved to establish the first batch of "China-Africa Partnership Research Institute" exchange projects in China.

The China-South Africa Joint Research Center for Photovoltaic and Hydrogen Energy was inaugurated.

It is understood that Lv Hui's team established friendly and cooperative relations with relevant academic teams from Venda University in South Africa in 2021, and the two sides carried out in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the field of photovoltaic hydrogen energy research. In December 2022, the university signed a contract with Wenda University in South Africa to establish the "China-South Africa Photovoltaic Hydrogen Energy Joint Research Center" and the "China-Africa Hydrogen Energy Strategy Research Institute", and in late August 2023, President Feng Zheng led a delegation to visit Wenda University to inaugurate the "China-South Africa Photovoltaic Hydrogen Energy Joint Research Center".

The "China-South Africa Advanced Photovoltaic Hydrogen Energy System Research Center" partner research institute exchange project will make full use of South Africa's reserve advantages in solar energy resources and platinum group (electrode materials essential for photovoltaic hydrogen production) resources, combined with the technical advantages accumulated by Hubei University of Technology and the cooperation team in new photovoltaic solar thermal technology, photovoltaic hydrogen production technology, liquid hydrogen storage technology, etc., and is committed to the research and development of high-efficiency photovoltaic water electrolysis hydrogen production and hydrogen storage technology and the applicability of related technologies in South Africa.

This project has received great attention and strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and South Africa, and is highly in line with the development plan of strategic emerging industries such as hydrogen energy and energy storage in China's "14th Five-Year Plan" and Vision 2035, as well as the plan for hydrogen energy development in South Africa's "Hydrogen Energy Society Roadmap 2021".
