It's been a long time!Liverpool topped the Premier League table for the first time in two years

Liverpool are back at the top of the Premier League after a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace last week for the first time in two years.

Mohamed Salah equalised with his 200th goal for the club, before Elliott netted a brilliant winner heading into stoppage time.

That means Liverpool will be league leaders for the first time since September 2021, when they moved to the top of the table after a 3-3 draw at Brentford, but they were then overtaken by Chelsea the following weekend.

The Reds struggled throughout the 2022-23 season, while they had no chance to threaten the top team at any stage last season.

However, they have made an impressive start to the season and after Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Villa, they found themselves dropping to second in the table.

McGinn's strike took Unai Emery's side to one point at the top of the table and meant Liverpool's victory earlier in the day put them firmly in top of the league ahead of next weekend's clash with Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp's side have picked up 37 points from the first 16 rounds of the season and managed to overtake Arsenal at the halfway point of the season.

Starting in 2018-19, the Reds have won the league halfway before Christmas for three consecutive seasons, and they are two wins away from that feat this season.

Mikel Arteta's side visit Anfield on 23 December in what could well be a crucial battle for the top spot in the table. Manchester City have failed to win four games in a row, which also presents an opportunity for Liverpool, but the Reds will have to keep the momentum going and avoid making mistakes if they are to challenge for the league title again.
