Guang Wang, Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital of China National Medical University, Attending Physician, MD. In July 2009, he began to work in the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University. It is the first in the province to carry out percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopy (PTCS)** complex hepatobiliary stone disease, and the first to carry out laparoscopic transcystic choledochal choledocholithiasis (LTCBDE)**gallbladder stones combined with common bile duct stones, transjejunal blind loop sinus tract cholangioscopy** intrahepatic bile duct stones and other technologies. In May 2022, as the fifth batch of medical team members from China (Liaoning) to assist the Gambia, he went to The Gambia to carry out medical assistance missions.

As a member of the Chinese medical team, wearing a team uniform and wearing a national flag on his chest, Wang Guang is well aware of the mission and responsibility on his shoulders. The Gambia's living conditions are backward, there is a shortage of all kinds of materials, and during the rainy season, floods and malaria mosquitoes have brought severe challenges to everyone's life and work, but this has not dampened his enthusiasm for carrying out foreign medical missions.

Lack of medical supplies and inadequate infrastructure are the bigger problems faced by medical team members working in The Gambia than the difficulties of life. High-frequency, prolonged, and large-scale power outages pose great challenges to surgeons. What he remembers most is a patient with a huge goiter who had already seen a doctor in September 2022 and was unable to operate due to the size of the mass**, this time with breathing difficulties. After a detailed medical history and physical examination, Wang Guang believes that surgery is the only way to solve the patient's pain. Before the operation, he led his colleagues in the department to make careful planning for the surgical plan, anesthesia and other aspects and start the operation. However, everything went smoothly in the first half of the operation, but the sudden power outage made the operating room dark, and the assistant and anesthesiologist could only use two mobile phones for lighting. On the day she was discharged from the hospital, she pulled Dr. Wang Guang to her side, and she used smile, the world's most common language, to convey her joy and gratitude to Chinese doctors. At that moment, Dr. Wang Guang was full of joy and gratification, and at the same time, he also had a deeper understanding of the spirit of the Chinese foreign aid medical team that is "not afraid of hardship, willing to dedicate, save lives and help the wounded, and have boundless love".

Laparoscopic surgery is an urgent type of surgery that is urgently needed in the Department of General Surgery of The Gambia Hospital, because it is less invasive, faster recovery, and can bring more benefits to patients, so it is favored by everyone. In order to change the status quo, promote the better implementation of laparoscopic surgery in Ganga and benefit local patients, Dr. Wang Guang trained two doctors in laparoscopic simulator operation and surgical practice guidance, so that they successfully mastered the basic skills of laparoscopic surgery and were able to preliminarily complete laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendectomy.

In order to better serve local patients, Dr. Wang Guang adheres to the same routine as local doctors, and at the same time participates in the emergency shift work that rotates every four days, and often goes to the hospital late at night to guide the rescue of stab wounds and gunshot wounds. During the mission, he completed more than 240 surgical operations, including more than 40 emergency surgeries, guided and completed 16 laparoscopic surgeries, treated more than 600 patients in outpatient clinics, conducted 32 teaching rounds, and participated in 33 academic exchanges. During the period of foreign aid, Wang Guang was not only deeply loved and trusted by local patients, but also received high praise and praise from local hospitals and foreign doctors.

The financial work of the medical team is an extremely time-consuming and energy-consuming work, in addition to completing a large number of original paper bills to sort, check, and sign the task of resting time, but also to complete the network upload work of relevant materials, but because of the local network, the network upload work that can be completed within a few minutes in China often takes several hours to complete in the middle of the night, and sometimes even needs to be completed overnight, but he has no complaints, in strict accordance with the financial standards, so that the accounts are clear. The complete details ensure that the financial work of the medical team is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Wang Guang believes that medical aid is an important part of promoting China's humanitarian spirit, promoting international cooperation and promoting the construction of the "Belt and Road".
