It's an interesting concept, and I've been using it for a long time, but this is the first time I've ever known of a word to describe it.
The so-called "brain sandbox" means: simulating and rehearsing in the brain.
This method is very useful, such as giving speeches, some people are scared and have stage fright, maybe because they can't express themselves, or because they are afraid to speak in public, or because they are too nervous.
But no matter what the reason, if you can Xi the situation close to the real speech dozens of times, or even dozens of times, in your brain, when you really stand on the podium, there is actually not a lot of pressure.
After the dual training of the brain and reality, people can make rapid progress in certain skills.
There is an interesting example, for example, when I was learning to drive during my undergraduate studies, when I was studying subject 2, due to the limited resources of the driving school, more than a dozen people lined up a car a day, so I could only run two laps once a day.
This practice Xi time is actually very short, so some people will study for a long time before they dare to take the exam, or spend more money every day and study overtime.
It's also the first time I've hit the car, and I didn't spend an extra point on subject two, so I went for 5 days, and I practiced 10 laps in total, which added up to just a few hours, and I went to the exam room, and I got a full score.
At first, I thought that I was quite talented in learning to drive, but when I looked back, I realized that the main reason why I learned so quickly was because of the method I used to learn Xi at that time: rehearsal in my brain.
After the first day of practice, I was still confused, because there were a lot of points that needed to be memorized, so I only ran for a few minutes, and I almost didn't learn anything, so I practiced the whole process in my brain a few times before learning on the second day, and when I got on the car to practice Xi Xi, I found that it was much easier and so for 5 consecutive days.
In addition to the real practice Xi 10 laps, I have practiced dozens Xi of laps in my brain, so I passed the exam easily and quickly, and the same is true for subject 3, which feels very cool and not difficult.
This is an experience with a relatively clear memory, of course, in addition to learning to drive, speech, the brain sand table method can also be used in many scenes. For example, communication (with customers, leaders, etc.), rehearsing a meeting or other complex processes (from start to finish, so as not to miss any details) ......
Speaking of which, there is another interesting example that should be mentioned here, which is somewhat similar to how I learned to drive.
In the movie "Flying Life", a car generally needs two people, one to drive and one to lead (monitoring the parameters of the car, making suggestions according to the changes in the venue and the car, etc.).
Due to an accident, the navigator could not participate. The protagonist fights alone to win the championship without a navigator. He couldn't predict the distance, the corners, the possible dangers, so how did he get the title?
The reason for this is the brain rehearsal, which he mentally rehearsed the entire course thousands of times, memorizing every corner and length.
This skill is really scary, and it can make a big difference in the right situation. Simulating rehearsals in our brains to cope with reality makes us more comfortable when facing real scenarios.
In addition to the simulation rehearsal in advance, the brain sand table can also be used for post-event summarization, which is the review.
Recall the important events of the day every day to see what can be improved and what can be further improved.
With this skill, an individual may grow tenfold faster.
Hope the "brain sandbox" method works for you:
1.Pre-rehearsal
2.Review after the fact
