Autumn and Winter Check-in Challenge
The captain of the British Royal Air Force revealed that the discovery of UFOs at the UK's ballistic missile warning base led to a secret investigation.
Yorkshire's RAF fylingdales are known for their iconic "golf" radar, which scans the sky for foreign attacks. It was first active during the Cold War, issuing its famous "four-minute warning" when a missile strikes.
However, these radars are also capable of tracking space objects up to 3,000 miles away, and it has been revealed that they often spot UFOs – unidentified flying objects and, now more commonly, unidentified anomalies.
One such UFO has attracted attention, and it has sparked a top-secret investigation.
RAF Captain David Todd, a former senior officer at the base, revealed the details of the incident.
In an interview with The Sun, he said that for various reasons, unknown information appears on the radar every once in a while.
At that time, if the radar had enough spare capacity, it was told to go and track them. This is because we are interested in the unknown, and sometimes we need to figure out what it is, in **, and most importantly, what it might encounter in orbit, like a spy satellite. ”
This particular incident took place in 1981 or 1982, and it is not known whether the date was postponed for security reasons or because there were no official records.
I remember this very well. "It was an unknown object and the Fylingdales radar tracked it," said Captain Todd. We can't match it to anything on the computer. Radar tracked it for a long time. We have a lot of information about it. It seems to be in Earth orbit and we waited for it to reappear, but it didn't come back. So that intrigued us a lot because people started saying "Oh, is this a UFO?".”
Despite the constant radar surveillance, the UFO did not return – so Captain Todd ordered the defense contractor SERCO to investigate it further.
We are obliged to do this, he said, because it is an unknown object, and they have done a lot of work on it and have come up with various theories. One of them is "a UFO with little green men in it!".”
Well, you have to be open to these things, and you can't underestimate the possibility. ”
But in the end, the investigation concluded that the object was a meteor.
"We think the most likely explanation is that it is a meteor that rotates in the same direction as the Earth," said Captain Todd. ”。
The planet is constantly bombarded with meteors, with thousands of meteors hitting the atmosphere every day, and other meteors just passing by.
But despite conventional explanations, this incident was not the last time the captain encountered UFOs - he later joined the "UFO Office" of the Ministry of Defense.
