Pumpkin is an annual creeping plant of the family Cucurbitaceae, which is a common vegetable with rich nutritional value. Pumpkins are mainly propagated by seeds, and in the process of planting pumpkins, seed propagation and collection are very important links. The correct method of seed retention can guarantee the quality and purity of the seeds, providing quality seeds for the next year's planting.
However, it should be noted that if the pumpkin planted is a commercial seed purchased, it is not recommended to keep the seed, and the seeds sold on the market are generally hybrid seeds (F1), and the separation of the offspring is very serious, and the original variety characteristics and consistency cannot be guaranteed, and the hybrid commercial seeds have their own complete seed production proceduresIf it is an ancestral traditional variety, you can choose melon seeds, the general ancestral varieties are conventional varieties, and the offspring can well retain the characteristics and consistency of the original variety
First, choose melons and keep seeds:
Do not plant other varieties of pumpkins next to the pumpkins that need to be retained, otherwise it is easy to cross with pollination, and the offspring cannot guarantee the purity. Choose the melon that grows robustly on the vine and conforms to the characteristics of the variety, and the melon selected should not be near the root melon, nor should it be too far away from the root of the melon, and the pumpkin will be harvested after it is fully mature, if the pumpkin is not mature, the seeds will not be full.
2. Cut the melon and take the seeds, wash and dry: the harvested mature pumpkins will be placed in the warehouse and then ripe for 2-3 days, and then the melons will be cut and the seeds will be taken. Wash the seeds with clean water, and remove the seeds that float on the surface of the water when washing, leaving only the plump seeds that have sunk in the water and dry them in the sun.
3. Do a good job of labeling and safe storage: pack well, do a good job of labeling, and put it in a cool and dry place. During the period, pay attention to moisture, rodents, insect pests, etc., and take them out for sowing in the spring of the next year.
