It's been a long time since I've shared Claude's story, and today I'm sharing Claude's recent state, everyone knows that he is a young child with severe autism, and when he came, he didn't have the ability to speak, and he didn't even have the ability to read along.
The so-called "reading along" is to listen to the voices of others and imitate the same content. Claude, who has no language, can read along after a period of time, but his reading is different from others, he can't immediately imitate my sentences after hearing me speak, he needs to look at my mouth shape to imitate my language, which shows that there is no problem with his pronunciation, that is, he can't repeat other people's words. Therefore, his language impediment is in his vocal memory, he is unable to distinguish and store sounds, nor can he process and extract sounds, and naturally he is unable to repeat sounds.
There is also such a phenomenon, that is, when you say goodbye to him, he has no reaction, but when he says goodbye to him, let him see the mouth shape of saying goodbye, and he will also open his mouth to say goodbye, and the voice is very clear. It shows that he pronounces the words by looking at the mouth shape visually, rather than through auditory processing. After round and round of hard work, Vausan has recently regained his ability to repeat language, and now we say, "Goodbye," and he will also say, "Goodbye," and we will say, "Bye-bye," and he will also say, "Bye-bye," without looking at the lip shape. He has gone from being speechless at the beginning, to being able to speak, to being able to lip-me-watch, to now being able to repeat other people's voices, which is indeed a big step.
What is commendable is that he recently said a sentence: "I want to pee," which really made me very excited, because a child like him who can't repeat language, wants to say language, which involves storage, memory and retrieval skills, and it is really difficult for him to speak, but Claude did it, he really opened the door to language, and we also look forward to Claude's language can develop faster and better, and return to the warm family as soon as possible.
