At CES 2024, Sony showcased a new as-yet-unnamed MR headset designed for "Spatial Content Creation," as well as a pair of ring controllers and controller controllers for intuitive interaction with 3D objects and precise pointing.
According to reports, the headset comes in a matte gray case that looks like a lite version of the PSVR2, and has two cameras on the front, as well as a handle and an accessory shaped like a ring. The headset is powered by Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 with 13-inch 4K OLED screen covering 96% DCI-P3 color gamut.
The device features a total of six cameras and sensors, along with a controller that allows users to intuitively manipulate objects in the virtual space, as well as a ring controller that allows precise pointing, allowing creators to create in the virtual space with controllers and keyboards while wearing the headset.
Not only can creators see life-scale 3D models in an extended reality environment with HD displays, but they can create and modify 3D models in it. To do this, Sony showed a demo of the mr headset, in which we can see the user maneuvering the robot based on a handle and a ring device.
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said the new mr headset will offer a "clear** experience" and "intuitive 3D design interaction," a device geared toward professionals, similar to Sony's professional-grade cameras.
During the event, Sony also announced an exclusive collaboration with Siemens to jointly launch a solution for immersive design and collaborative product engineering. "Together, we are creating an environment where physical reality can be experienced without the constraints of time, profoundly improving the way our customers work and collaborate," Siemens said. ”
It is worth mentioning that the headset is designed for creators and artists who manipulate and make products in the virtual space, and will be available later in 2024, with Sony and its partners to announce more details in succession, including specifications, dates, regions, pricing, sales channels, and software compatibility, among others.
