In the second half, Enzo Barrenesca and Giuseppe Caso scored in quick succession, allowing Napoli's Giovanni Simeone to have his goal disallowed for handball. Frosinone secured the victory in stoppage time through goals from Walid Shedila and Abdou Haroui.
Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri expressed his disappointment with his team's performance and apologised to the fans.
