Changting, People's Daily Online, December 7 (Ouyang Yijia) The country's first carbon sink transaction for soil and water conservation projects was successfully signed in Changting, Fujian Province today, with a total transaction of 100,000 tons of water and soil conservation carbon sink for the comprehensive treatment of the Luodi River watershed in Changting County, with a total price of 1.8 million yuan.
Soil and water conservation carbon sink refers to the process or ability to generate carbon sink after taking measures to prevent and control soil erosion caused by natural factors and human activities. The carbon sink project of this transaction is located in the small watershed of the Luodi River in Hetian Town, Changting County, Fujian Province. After 21 consecutive years of comprehensive soil erosion control, with horizontal land preparation afforestation, forest tending and management, forest land application and other management measures, on the basis of giving full play to the benefits of soil and water conservation, the carbon storage capacity and carbon sink increment of the small watershed ecosystem have been significantly consolidated and improved, and the carbon storage has increased by about 30,000 tons (c equivalent), with an average annual growth of 1,890 tonsThe carbon sink reached about 110,000 tons (CO2 equivalent), of which about 60,000 tons of soil carbon sink and about 50,000 tons of vegetation carbon sink.
It is understood that Changting County was one of the most serious areas of soil erosion in the red soil area of southern China, and "the mountains are bright, the water is turbid, the fields are thin, and the people are poor" is a true portrayal of the ecological deterioration and poverty at that time. After years of effective governance, the soil and water conservation rate in Changting County has increased from 68 in 198553% to 9343%, realizing the historic transformation from the national soil erosion disaster area to the national ecological civilization construction demonstration county. The successful transaction of the soil and water conservation carbon sink project not only reflects the significant ecological benefits of local soil erosion control, water storage and soil conservation, and the huge potential of soil and water conservation carbon sink, but also reflects the value of soil and water conservation carbon sink and the bold exploration of the value realization of soil and water conservation ecological products.
