A total of 4,033 entries were received from 14 countries on four continents. At the award ceremony, 72 works from 15 awards were announced. Among them, "The Great Wall Dragon" won the first prize in the product design unit, "Twenty-four Solar Terms" won the first prize in the special design unit of the Three Mountains and Five Gardens, and "The Red Lantern Dragon" won the second prize in the graphic design unit.
The largest and most visually effective of the award-winning works is "The Great Wall Dragon". It is a large mecha work that can be spread out up to more than 19 meters. When the dragon's body unfolds slowly like a dragon dance performance, you can see that each dragon's back is transformed into the image of the Great Wall, symbolizing the national spirit. Its creator Sun Shiqian introduced that creating such a work was his childhood dream. "The dragon and the Great Wall are both totems of our nation. When I was in elementary school, I wondered if I could combine the two and make it a large installation. Later, he was admitted to CAFA and taught himself many majors such as materials, machinery, and sculpture, and finally realized his dream.
From now on, 72 award-winning works, 36 previous award-winning works, and 29 artworks by 15 invited artists will be exhibited at the Cultural Space of Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchange Center. Among them, the famous Mexican sculptor Sebastian's work "Red Dragon" was also invited to participate in the exhibition. Using cardboard as a raw material, he creates a red dragon-shaped installation with a paper sculpture feeling, expressing strength, light, and personality.
The culture of the zodiac is a unique tradition and creation of the Chinese nation, and a major contribution of the Chinese nation to world civilization, which should be vigorously promoted. Co-sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the ** Academy of Fine Arts, the Global Zodiac Design Competition has been held for 10 sessions, accumulating fruitful and high-level zodiac cultural design achievements, and also building an important platform for promoting the cultural integration between China and the world, realizing mutual learning between civilizations and people-to-people bonds. This year's award-winning works will travel overseas with the 2024 "Happy New Year" event, and hold zodiac design exhibitions in 10 countries, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Estonia, Greece, Germany, and Peru.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the competition, the organizing committee released the brand logo of "auspicious zodiac". The logo was designed by the team of associate professor Chen Weiping of CAFA, and its shape is taken from the shape of a traditional Chinese bronze mirror in the shape of a sunflower. The base of the logo is decorated with rope patterns, which means unity and cooperation. The main pattern of the zodiac is inspired by the auspicious cloud pattern and the longevity vine pattern**, and the image of the zodiac is outlined with simple and flexible lines, which are not only their own shapes, but also integrated into one, and have the auspicious meaning of protecting the family and the country.
On December 8, the competition also released a global call for the Global Auspicious Zodiac Design Competition (Year of the Snake). The competition will set up the Zodiac snake theme graphic design, multi-** and interactive design units, the Zodiac snake theme product design unit, and will also open theme design series such as three mountains and five parks.
