IT Home News on December 16,Apple recently agreed to pay $25 million (currently about $1.).RMB 7.8 billion) settlement moneyto settle a class action lawsuit regarding the Family Sharing feature.
The class-action lawsuit dates back to 2019, where the plaintiffs argue that Apple misrepresented the ability to share subscription apps in Family Sharing.
The IT home attaches Apple's official description of the "Family Sharing" function as follows:
With Family Sharing, you can share access to great Apple services like iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Fitness+, Apple News+, and Apple Arcade with up to five other family members. The lawsuit is at the heart of Apple's official policy that app developers can opt out of "family sharing," which has not been explicitly mentioned in previous promotional statements.Your group can also share iTunes, Apple Books, and App Store purchases. You can even help locate each other's lost devices.
The class action plaintiffs argue that Apple has placed ads on all app login pages, among other things, since Apple launched the Family Sharing service on January 30, 2019.
However, Apple did not state that not all apps support "Family Sharing", in fact, the vast majority of subscription-based apps do not participate in "Family Sharing", believing that Apple has "induced purchases".
