The Kubuqi Photovoltaic Desertification Control Project is located in the hinterland of the Kubuqi Desert in Hangjin Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and is invested and constructed by Three Gorges Energy and Yili Group, a subsidiary of the Three Gorges Corporation. The project has an installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts, covers an area of 100,000 mu, and is equipped with an energy storage system with a capacity of 400 MW and 800 MWh (that is, the maximum charging and discharging power is 400 MW and a total storage capacity of 800 MWh) and a desert governance ecological construction project of 100,000 mu.

After being connected to the grid, the Kubuqi photovoltaic sand control project is expected to generate about 4.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year, save about 1.23 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 3.19 million tons per year. The project will simultaneously use drone flying and other technologies to restore and control 100,000 acres of desert.
