According to AFP on December 22, French authorities said on the 22nd that a plane carrying more than 300 Indian passengers to Nicaragua was detained in France on suspicion of "human trafficking".

The plane took off from the UAE and was detained by French authorities after receiving an anonymous tip.

The report quoted information from the Paris prosecutor's office that the plane was detained on the 21st and that the passengers on board "may be victims of human trafficking."

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the National Unit for Combating Organized Crime has taken over the investigation.

Authorities in the northeastern French department of Marne said the plane, operated by Romanian Legend Airlines, "remained on the tarmac of Watri airport after landing."

Authorities said the plane was scheduled to refuel there and that it was carrying 303 Indians who could be working in the UAE.

According to people familiar with the matter, the passengers may have planned to travel to Central America in an attempt to enter the United States or Canada illegally.

After the plane landed in France, passengers were first asked to remain on board the plane and then allowed to disembark. The French side has arranged separate beds for these passengers in the terminal.
