On November 11, "Embracing the City - Beijing Rail Transit Integration Exhibition" opened at the Beijing Planning Exhibition Center. Since its opening four weeks ago, the exhibition has been widely praised by all walks of life, with an endless stream of visitors and more than 10,000 visitors. The 16 rail transit integration projects displayed in the "Highlighting Style" chapter have attracted everyone's attention. Now we will once again enter the "rail + comprehensive transportation" section. As a key node of the urban transportation network and spatial structure, how do they achieve efficient and intensive land use and stimulate urban vitality?

What is an integrated transportation hub?

An integrated transportation hub is a major node located at the intersection of the integrated transportation network composed of two or more modes of transportation, important lines, stations and other facilities. Passengers pass through, arrive and transfer from here, goods are transferred from here, and transportation vehicles carry out technical operations here, which is the connection point between various modes of transportation and urban and intercity transportation.

According to the Beijing Rail Transit Network Plan (2020-2035), Beijing will build a national, regional and city-level hub system. For example, the Beijing Sub-central Station and Beijing Chaoyang Station in the exhibition are both national passenger transport hubs built on high-speed railways, intercity railways and general-speed trunk railways. Shunyi Station and other regional passenger transport hubs are mainly located in the central urban area and multi-point new city areas, relying on intercity railways and regional express lines to enhance the momentum of regional development. Most of the city-level passenger transport hubs are transfer nodes of several rail transit lines, such as Huoying Station, which not only serves the passenger transport needs of urban concentrated construction areas, but also supports the development of urban functional areas and major employment centersLize Business District Station integrates the functions of air check-in and civil aviation baggage check-in.

What is the significance of station-city integration?

Station-city integration, also known as "station-city integration", refers to the relationship between railways, urban rail transit stations and surrounding cities in terms of functional space, transportation mechanism and other elements. The station-city integration at the project level refers to the planning and construction of the hub, combined with the city's own conditions, relying on the spillover effect of railway and track development, and taking measures according to local conditions to achieve the coordinated development of the hub and its surrounding areas. Station-city integration advocates the close integration of important transportation stations with urban space, that is, arranging functions such as daily office, residence and urban services within walking distance of the station, so as to provide citizens with convenient lifestyle and economic activity conditions.

With the deepening of the understanding of the function of the comprehensive transportation hub, the construction of the hub should not only consider the convenient and efficient transportation function, but also give full play to the factor agglomeration capacity and radiation effect of the hub. Through integrated planning, design, construction and operation, the value of the land around the hub has been enhanced, and the urban development led by rail transit has been truly realized, and the spillover effect of the hub has been fully transformed into regional economic benefits.

The continuous practice of the concept of station-city integration has also made the station and the city change from plane separation to three-dimensional integration in terms of spatial form, and from separate development to overall linkage in the implementation and landing. This not only promotes the renewal and transformation of the city, but also provides a newer, more comfortable and efficient living mode for the general public.

Efficient and intensive land use. The integrated transportation hub undertakes the function of gathering and distributing huge passenger flows, and occupies a relatively large area. Through the optimal design and full utilization of underground space and rail space, the station-city integration hub can realize the composite utilization and high-intensity development of land resources, and save precious land resources for urban development.

Optimize the layout of urban functions. The station-city integrated hub not only provides transportation services for citizens, but also integrates diversified urban functions and introduces hotel, office, residential, entertainment, commercial, cultural, sports and other facilities to realize the composite development of transportation hubs and commercial districts, residential areas and comprehensive functional areas, which is conducive to improving the functional layout structure of the city.

Energize the city. Because of its stable, continuous and huge passenger flow, the comprehensive first-class hub has inherent economic development advantages. Through the effective integration of urban functions, the station-city integration hub can better drive the development of the regional economic circle, stimulate the vitality of the city, and become the economic engine of the city and the catalyst for renewal and development.

Enhance the passenger travel experience. The station-city integration hub not only undertakes the functions of internal and external transportation connection and regional liaison, but also undertakes various functions such as serving urban commerce, office, and leisure. By realizing the organic combination of transportation and various business functions, the station-city integration hub can meet the diversified needs of passengers, enrich the travel experience of passengers, and effectively improve the convenience and comfort of travel.

How to practice station-city integration?

See what they have to say.

People-oriented, consider the needs of multiple parties.

In recent years, I have witnessed the rapid development of Beijing's rail transit from the goal of mileage to the current integrated and high-quality development. In the work of station-city integration, we need to understand what the people need, and we planners, designers and builders will provide him with what kind of scenes, and we must provide more diverse scenes.

Zhang Dengke. The integration of station and city needs to strengthen policy guarantee and top-level design of mechanism.

In the future integration work, we should introduce some encouraging policies and implementation mechanisms to promote the formation of consensus and actively participate in the integration of different property rights units, subjects and departments around the rail transit network and the surrounding stations.

Ho Jun Joe. Operation management is included in the consideration of station-city integration in advance.

In the future, I believe that we should start to enter the stage of comprehensive research and operation of rail transit integration. At this stage, the biggest difficulty is actually how to truly achieve the effect of public space through high-quality and high-level operation, truly express our original intention when designing, and truly solve problems such as management barriers and multi-owner coordination mechanism in the entire operation.

It is hoped that the design of the future integrated transportation hub can respond to some concepts and ideas in the context of national carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. If possible, more underground hubs can be opened to sunlight and natural windsAt the same time, it can combine the characteristics of different passenger flows and different time periods to make the information of human-computer interaction smoother.

At present, in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Party Committee of "Rail Transit Leading Urban Development", the city is making every effort to promote the planning and construction of projects such as the comprehensive transportation hub of Beijing City Sub-central Station, the comprehensive transportation hub of Lize City Terminal, the comprehensive transportation hub of Apple Garden, and the comprehensive transportation hub of Huoying. In the future, these projects will provide more convenient rail transit services for Beijing sub-center, Lize Financial Business District, Jingxi area, Huitian area, etc., and help build the city vitality center.
