China's first Asian Games gold medal came in shooting. On September 2, 1974, in a shooting competition of the 7th Asian Games held in Tehran, Iran, Su Zhibo won the gold medal in the men's automatic pistol slow fire with a score of 552 rings, becoming the first athlete of the Chinese delegation to climb the podium of the Asian Games champion.

Coincidentally, when Xu Haifeng achieved a breakthrough of zero Chinese Olympic champions at the Los Angeles Olympics 10 years later, he won the gold medal in the men's self-pistol slow fire.
Su Zhibo has participated in 3 Asian Games, Tehran Asian Games and 1978 Bangkok Asian Games won 3 gold and 2 gold medals respectively.
