Article**: Oceans and Wetlands.
About 60% of the birds are songbirds, and songbirds have the highest total number of traded species of any bird. Millions of songbirds are harvested from the wild each year for a variety of purposes, including pets**, food use, feathers, and more. Songbirds** are very complex, involving hundreds of species. There are also regional differences and large knowledge gaps in terms of actual numbers, trends, species and the impact of this ** on wild songbird populations.

From 11 to 14 December 2023, more than 60 experts, policymakers and stakeholders from more than 30 countries gathered at the United Nations Convention Centre in Bangkok for a technical workshop on songbirds** and conservation management, organized by the International Convention on Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). As an observer body of the CITES Convention, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Association (CGDC) and the Green Society of China (CGDC) sent staff to participate in the meeting.
This workshop is based on Article 18 on songbirds** and conservation management, adopted at the 19th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP19) in Panama City in 2022Decision 256 (COP19 Rev.). The objective of the conference is to conserve and sustainably manage songbirds that are affected by the international world.
Presentations were made by representatives of the six CITES regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Central and South America and the Caribbean, and Oceania), as well as by representatives of non-governmental organizations.
The workshop discussed the results of preliminary research on the size and scope of international songbirds, as well as the management and conservation priorities of the songbird taxa involved in this category.
