"The Siege" is a classic work, in the context of the Anti-Japanese War, vividly depicting the life experience of Fang Hong, an international student, after returning to China. Through the description of family, love and work in the process of Fang Hong's growing up, the author Qian Zhongshu shows the complexity of life and the dilemma of besieging the city.
In terms of family, Fang's upbringing environment limited his opportunities for self-growth, making him feel that his own worth was neglected. His parents' over-contracting of him, as well as his high expectations and disappointments, all aggravated his inferiority complex. This upbringing made him lack assertiveness, dependence on others, and a sense of uncertainty about his future.
In terms of work, Fang Hongjian has no real talent and can only rely on the help of others to find a job. He was oppressed at work, full of grievances, and physically and mentally exhausted. It can be seen that he lacks goals and ideas at work and has been in a state of escapism.
In terms of love, Fang Honggradually had sincere feelings for Tang Xiaofu, but in the end they failed to come together. And Miss Su and Sun Roujia are just passers-by in his life. After getting married, he discovers that his partner is very different from his original one, and the marriage ends in quarrels and failures. This shows that marriage itself is a gamble, and we cannot predict the state of the other person after marriage. Many people choose to settle because they are facing social pressure and their parents urging them to get married.
Fang Hongji's life is ordinary and full of regrets. His experience makes us realize that no matter how hard we try to get rid of mediocrity, we may still end up being ordinary people. Sometimes we are confused, sometimes we panic, and many things cannot be solved smoothly. However, no matter what we are facing, our attitudes and practices determine the outcome. We should cherish what we have, constantly pursue progress, and maintain a positive original intention. No matter how high the predicament of the siege is, we can create a wonderful life, at least with fewer regrets.
Through the description of Fang Hongji's experience, Qian Zhongshu wants to convey the dilemma of siege in life and how we can face it with wisdom and courage. We should bravely face the difficulties and challenges in life, cherish the present, and constantly pursue progress and development. Even if we can't finally break free from the shackles of the siege, we can still play out a wonderful chapter of our lives in it.
