Seoul, the capital of South Korea, announced on the 26th that drones will be used to monitor traffic conditions in real time in 2024.

According to the Korea Herald, at that time, the artificial intelligence algorithm will analyze the surveillance footage taken by the drone from a height of about 200 meters above the ground to find out the pattern and the road conditions.

The Seoul Metropolitan Traffic Management Department began collecting traffic management data reported by drones from this fall, and from next year it will share this information with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and related facility management companies to decide how to better manage and respond to traffic conditions.

To build this drone- and AI-based traffic management system, the Seoul Metropolitan Government** conducted several tests in September and October this year, including using drones to monitor crowd density and nearby road conditions at large-scale public events in the fall. The Seoul Metropolitan Government** hopes that in the future, the combination of drones and artificial intelligence technology will be able to detect and respond to possible traffic problems more quickly.

Drones will also be used to inspect roadside construction sites and assist inspectors. The footage they capture will be used to confirm whether the construction site is in violation of safety regulations or whether it is taking up too much road space.

By utilizing advanced technology, the city will be able to improve Seoul's traffic management capabilities and provide a safer traffic environment for citizens, said the Seoul Metropolitan Transportation Department. (END) (Qiao Ying).
