China's scientific research team has successfully created artificial bear bile. This latest study, completed by the team of the Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, marks an important progress in the field of substitution research of endangered animal medicinal materials in China, and will provide a new direction for the sustainable use of endangered medicinal materials.
For nearly 13 centuries, bear bile has been a precious and effective medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine. However, the practice of raising bears alive to extract bile is widely controversial. To this end, the team of Yu Shishan and Wang Xiaoliang, researchers from the Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Zhang Boli, honorary president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, proposed a new research strategy to systematically explain the scientific connotation of the traditional curative effect of bear bile, and integrate technologies from different disciplines to create artificial bear bile.
The research team established a multi-dimensional pharmacodynamic evaluation system that reflects the efficacy of bear bile to comprehensively evaluate the best effects of bear bile and determine the pharmacodynamic substances in bear bileAnd the use of chemical synthesis and enzyme engineering technology to achieve efficient and environmentally friendly way to achieve mass production of the pharmacodynamic substances in bear bile. In addition, the team also rationally optimized and restructured the artificial bear bile formulation.
The results of the study showed that the chemical composition of the resulting artificial bear bile was highly consistent with that of natural bear bile. The pharmacodynamics and safety evaluation of the preclinical system and clinical trials have shown thatThe effectiveness of artificial bear bile is comparable to that of the currently used drainage bear bile, and the safety is good, and the quality is more stable and controllable than that of drainage bear bile
According to the research team, the successful creation of artificial bear bile will fundamentally solve the problem of bear bile and protect bear animals, which has important economic, ecological and social value. The research results are expected to become a new research paradigm for the development of alternatives to other endangered medicinal materials, and provide a new direction for the sustainable use of endangered medicinal materials.
Recently, the research results were published in the internationally renowned academic journal Engineering.
