Whether you've been to London or not, you've heard of Tower Bridge, which spans the River Thames. A symbol of London, the magnificent Tower Bridge spans the River Thames, and it is also one of the last neo-Gothic buildings in London.

For architecture and landscape architecture students, it is one of the symbols of the revival of Gothic architecture, representing the change of design style under the changing times.

London Eye

The London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel, is one of London's most iconic attractions. It was originally a temporary structure built in the United Kingdom to celebrate the year 2000, but was originally scheduled to be demolished in 2005. Due to its popularity with British and tourists alike, the local council decided to keep the London Eye permanently.

People call it the millennial wheel, and the design of the wheel shape represents that the rotation of the wheel of history has entered a new century, which is the meaning given by the times. Twenty-three years later, it is still the tallest Ferris wheel in the world if you look at the observation wheel supported by cantilever beams.

Standing above the London Eye, you can look out over London and get a glimpse of the city.

Tate Gallery

In the 90s, the Tate Group decided to establish an art gallery dedicated to international modern and contemporary art, and chose the abandoned Riverside Power Plant as the site. Since its establishment, the museum has mainly collected British and international contemporary art from 1900 to the present, including the Marcel Duchamp Fountain and Dali Lobster**.

It is worth mentioning that the collection of Tate Modern is exhibited according to four categories of conceptual themes: History-Memory-Society, Portrait-Action-Body, Landscape-Material-Environment, Still Life-Object-Real Life.

Confused?Let the instructor take you through the artwork to connect it with its style or theme, and learn about the contemporary art genre and their work.

The Elizabeth Tower was completed on 10 April 1858 and is the largest bell in the UK. Also known as Big Ben, the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster, one of the world's most famous Gothic buildings, the clock tower attached to the British Parliament Chamber.

Located on the banks of the River Thames in London, England, the clock tower is not only one of London's landmarks, but also one of the masterpieces of Gothic architecture. This style emphasizes features such as pointed arches, ornamental arched windows, minarets, carvings, etc., embodying a majestic, intricate, and ornate architectural art.

Covent Garden

Located between the City of Westminster and the City of London, Covent Garden is one of the oldest public markets in the region, with almost 300 years of history.

Covent Garden, which seemed very functional and modest at the time, focused on fit for purpose. Architect Fowler described the Covent Garden Market building as "so expressed the purpose for which it was built that it could not have been mistaken for anything else".

It's a haven for folk art, with street performances of all kinds. At Covent Garden, you can get in touch with the most down-to-earth British street atmosphere.

Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is the most famous square in the UK and is regarded as the heart and historical meeting point of London. It has witnessed political marches, mass rallies, and festivals that have gone down in history.

Today, it is an unshakable landmark that makes the hearts of London residents and visitors from around the world feel the city's heartbeat: the jubilation of the "Pillow Wars", the festivities of the Chinese New Year, the shock of the Easter Crucifixion, and the revelry of the green St. Patrick. The Victoria & Albert Museum, or V&A Museum in London, England, was voted the most romantic museum by the British public.

It is not only a museum that displays historical relics, but also focuses on reflecting the value of design. The museum's permanent collection of more than 2.3 million works of art, including ceramics, furniture, clothing, glasswork, jewelry, metalwork, sculptures, textiles and paintings, is enough to explore the history of human civilization for 3,000 years.

It also has the largest and most comprehensive collection of fashion in the world, including rare 17th-century dresses, 18th-century Mantua dresses, evening dresses from the 30s of the 20th century, daywear from the 60s of the 20th century, and post-war haute couture.

Its collections highlight the evolution of design, from traditional to contemporary, showcasing the creativity and technical practices of the designers. Henry Cole, the first director of the V&A Museum, once said:

The V&A's museum should be everyone's classroom, with a mission to educate and guide every designer, manufacturer and consumer with an artistic and scientific approach.

Serpentine Gallery

Founded in 1970 in Kensington Gardens in Hyde Park, the Serpentine Gallery is a classical-style teahouse built in 1934. Its architectural design itself blends in with its surroundings and is a work of art of its kind.

Interestingly, since Zaha Hadid was asked to design the gallery in 2000, the Serpentine Gallery has been redesigned every year by different top designers and design teams from around the world. As a result, the architectural design of the Serpentine Gallery has become one of the most high-profile architectural events in the global architecture world every year.

Since its inception, the Serpentine Gallery has been a platform for established and emerging architects to experiment in design and is an important showcase of contemporary architecture.
