I know a lot of poor people at the bottom who have frighteningly high levels of cognition

In my life circle, I know a lot of poor people. They have a monthly income of less than 3,000 yuan and belong to the typical bottom of society.

But to my surprise, these poor people have a higher level of awareness than many of the middle class I have met. I even suspect that they were reincarnated into poor families by rich people.

For example, one of my fellow countrymen, Master Li, works as a security guard downstairs in my house. He has only been in school for a few years and belongs to a typical group of low educational qualifications. But when chatting, he can always analyze many social phenomena to the head, so that I, a college student, have nothing to say.

Once we talked about the topic of education, Master Li said earnestly: "Nowadays, parents blindly make up classes, without considering their children's interests and strengths, and there are more 'high-scoring and low-ability' children cultivated." ”

I listened to it and called it awesome. I also read this argument in a best-selling book. How can Master Li's cognition be higher than that of many middle-class parents?

I'm starting to pay attention to more cases like this around me. For example, my aunt Bobo, who comes to clean every month. She is also a low-educated person, has worked odd jobs, and has a poor life. But she always likes to babble while working, and the content is varied, from entertainment gossip to historical allusions.

One day, she suddenly lamented that young people nowadays have a single entertainment life, drowning in TV and mobile phones. This is not conducive to diversified development, and it is easy to lose the ability to think independently.

When I heard it, I thought she was doing a Ph.D. in education

I am deeply surprised: how can such a person with such knowledge and thinking ability be at the bottom of society for a long time?

Then I read the book "IQ Deficit" by the scientist Tony Sekkara, and it dawned on me.

It turns out that human intelligence can be summarized into two dimensions:

One is cognitive intelligence, which determines your ability to Xi knowledge and skills;

The second is practical intelligence, which determines your ability to use existing knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems.

The poor people I know have a strong practical intellect. Through their work and life experiences, they have accumulated a wealth of knowledge. That's why I feel like they're "cognitive".

However, they may lack cognitive intelligence, such as the ability to deal with abstract problems. As a result, they are unable to escape poverty through formal education and are forced to struggle at the bottom of society.

It dawned on me that the division of labor in society is like this. Everyone has different talents and strengths. The so-called education is to teach children according to their aptitude, so that children can show their strengths.

Today's exam-oriented education only focuses on children's Chinese, math and English scores. As a result, many children lose development opportunities and ultimately fail to achieve self-worth.

In this sense, there is an urgent need to reform the education system. But how to do it specifically also requires authoritative institutions to study and formulate plans, and there is not much we ordinary people can do.

However, as a parent, I will pay attention to letting my children have more contact with society and cultivate practical skills. After discovering my child's interests and strengths, I will also respect his choice instead of sticking to the so-called mainstream values.

At the end of the day, there are no shortcuts to success. Society needs talents from all walks of life. As long as the child lives the life he wants, it is the success of the parents.
