So, what kind of snow is Blizzard?
What are the levels of Blizzard?
Why do you sometimes have a different "look" at Blizzard?
First of all, what is Blizzard?
China's meteorological standards for snowfall levels divide snowfall into seven levels: light snowfall (sporadic light snow), light snow, moderate snow, heavy snow, blizzard, heavy snowfall, and heavy snowfall. The standard generally uses two standards: 12 hours and 24 hours.
Based on the 24-hour precipitation, the precipitation is less than 01 mm is a trace snowfall (scattered light snow), 01 to 24 mm for light snow, 25 to 49 mm for moderate snow, 50 to 99 mm for heavy snow, 100 to 199 mm for Blizzard, 200 to 299 mm for a large blizzard, reaching or exceeding 300 mm is a very heavy blizzard.
Based on the 12-hour precipitation, the precipitation is less than 01 mm is a trace snowfall (scattered light snow), 01 to 09 mm for light snow, 10 to 29 mm for moderate snow, 30 to 59 mm for heavy snow, 60 to 99 mm for Blizzard, 100 to 149 mm for a large blizzard, reaching or exceeding 150 mm is a very heavy blizzard.
The classification of snowfall in different periods in the National Standard of the People's Republic of China (GB T) 28592-2012: Precipitation Grades.
That is, the 24-hour precipitation is in 100 to 199 mm or 12 hours of precipitation at 60 to 9A snowfall of 9 mm is called a blizzard. Moreover, above the level of Blizzard, there are also big Blizzards and extra-large Blizzards.
So, why do people sometimes "look and feel" about Blizzard differently?
This is because the different distribution of snowfall over a certain period of time can give people different feelings. For example, the same blizzard, if 15 mm of snowfall is evenly distributed over a 24-hour period, it gives the impression that the snow is sparse, but continuous; However, if 15 mm of snow falls in a short period of time, it gives the impression that the snowfall is dense, short and heavy.
It is important to note that a blizzard is a period of accumulated precipitation that reaches the level of a blizzard. "Goose feather snow" describes the size of the snowflakes, not the magnitude of the snowfall. The "goose feather snow" you see, if it doesn't last long, doesn't necessarily mean a blizzard; And the continuous fine snow you see, if it lasts for a whole day, the cumulative amount may reach the blizzard or even the heavy snow, and the threat to transportation, energy, agriculture and other fields is greater.
There will be heavy snowfall in these places, so take precautions!
According to the forecast of the ** Meteorological Observatory, it is expected that from 8 o'clock on December 13 to 8 o'clock on December 14, there will be heavy to heavy snowfall in parts of central Shaanxi, southern Shanxi, southern Hebei, southern Beijing, northern and western Henan, among them, there will be heavy snowfall (20 to 25 mm) in some areas of central Shaanxi and other places. In some of the above-mentioned areas, the depth of new snow is 5 to 8 cm, and locally it can reach more than 10 to 12 cm.
From 8 o'clock on December 14 to 8 o'clock on December 15, there were heavy to heavy snowfalls in parts of southeastern Shaanxi, northwest Hubei, central, western and northern Henan, southern Shanxi, southern Hebei, most of Shandong, eastern Liaoning, eastern Jilin and central Inner Mongolia, among them, there were heavy snowstorms (20 to 30 mm) in parts of southeastern Shaanxi, northern Henan, and northeastern Shandong. In some of the above-mentioned areas, the depth of new snow is 8 to 12 cm, and locally it can reach more than 15 to 20 cm.
It is particularly worth noting that this large-scale rain and snow process lasted for a long time, so we should not ignore the safety risks caused by the large amount of accumulated snowfall because of the continuous fine snowfall.
Relevant departments are requested to implement snow disaster prevention and frost damage prevention measures in accordance with their duties;Departments such as transportation, railways, electric power, and communications shall strengthen the inspection and maintenance of roads, railways, and linesPedestrians should pay attention to cold and anti-skidding, drivers should drive carefully, and vehicles should take anti-skid measures;Agricultural and pastoral areas and farming and breeding industries should be prepared to prevent snow disasters and frost damage;Reinforcement of temporary structures such as scaffolding, which are easily crushed by snow.
