Puerto Rico is an autonomous territory of the United States.

Located in the eastern part of the Lees Islands in the Caribbean Sea, Puerto Rico covers an area of 9,100 square kilometers, which is equivalent to the area of Wuhan City. The population is 3.65 million. The region is one of the largest overseas territories of the United States. The island was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and initially became a Spanish colony. In 1898, the United States and Spain fought a fierce Spanish-American War for control of Central America. After the war, the United States occupied Puerto Rico. Due to the well-developed tourism industry in the region, the economic situation is relatively good. In the 19th-20th centuries, Puerto Rico had expressed its desire for independence in the world's colonies. However, the 2007 world financial tsunami dealt a severe blow to its tourism industry, causing a sharp economic downturn and forcing it to rely on U.S. assistance to sustain basic livelihoods. As a result, the will for internal independence gradually weakened. Even if the United States relinquished its jurisdiction, Puerto Rico would find it difficult to achieve independence, as it received aid from the United States every year. At the same time, having U.S. citizenship also facilitates its residents to travel to the U.S. to live and work. The most recent independence referendum was held in June 2017, and the final results showed that 97% of people wanted to remain in the United States. It seemed that the people of Puerto Rico were satisfied with the current state of affairs.

French Guiana.

It is located on the east coast of South America, bordering Brazil and Suriname, with an area of 8350,000 square kilometers, slightly smaller than China's Zhejiang Province. Guyana welcomed Columbus in 1498, but this event was not taken seriously.

It was in 1604 that the French began to invade and establish settlements. Britain, the Netherlands, France, and Portugal then fought each other for the area until France finally gained control in 1816.

Because of the weak economic base of French Guiana, the local population has been dependent on large subsidies provided by France**, so the desire for independence has gradually waned.

France made the decision in 1964 to establish the European Space Launch Centre in the Kourou region of French Guiana. Today, the European Space Agency relies on the launch centre for many of its space activities.

No. 3, American Samoa.

Located in the eastern part of the Central Pacific region, the Samoan archipelago has a total area of 199 square kilometers, which is equivalent to the size of a small township and has a population of 670 thousand. The island is dotted with dots in the Pacific Ocean and looks very unremarkable. It was not until modern times, with the opening of the North America-Australia and New Zealand routes, that people began to pay attention to this small island. In 1899, according to the agreement between the United States, Britain and Germany, the island was divided into the eastern part of the United States and the western part of the German government.

American Samoa once had the desire to be independent, emulating German Samoa, but it certainly wouldn't be considered anymore. After all, despite being part of the same ethnic group, the countries of the West are currently dependent on fishing and tourism, and are very poor. American Samoa, by contrast, is very wealthy thanks to the support of the United States.
