December 5, 2023 is the 38th International Volunteer Day, and the director of CCAFA088 Hainan Wetland Protected Area of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Association (hereinafter referred to as "China Green Development Association" and "Green Society") led volunteers to hold volunteer service activities in Wanghai International Plaza and promote the importance of wetland conservation.
At the event site, the volunteers were dressed in uniform volunteer clothes, which was particularly eye-catching. Holding leaflets, they enthusiastically introduced the importance of wetland protection to passing citizens and tourists, and called on everyone to actively participate in wetland conservation work.
Wetlands are one of the most productive and biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, providing important ecological services for humans, such as purifying water quality, regulating climate, flood control and drainage, and providing biological habitats. China has more than 66 million hectares of wetlands, accounting for about 10% of the world's wetland area, ranking first in Asia and fourth in the world. However, due to the continuous large-scale reclamation and unreasonable development, many wetlands are facing the danger of being destroyed and disappearing, in order to arouse people's attention to wetland protection work, protect wetlands, an important water ecosystem, China Green Development Association has set up wetland reserves across the country, and has actively carried out various publicity activities for many years, hoping that through these activities and publicity, more people can understand the importance of wetland protection, and welcome more volunteers to join the wetland protection action to jointly care for the "kidney of the earth".
