New forces are frantically building momentum, a series of self-developed technologies and breakthroughs are emerging one after another, and a competition for the height of technology definition has begun. 800V platform, silicon carbide high-performance motor, advanced intelligent assisted driving technology. There are not a few executive scolding wars caused by technology, but BYD, as the big brother of the new energy vehicle industry, does not seem to have much presence in this battle.

On December 26, BYD held a full-scene efficient charging technology communication meeting in Guangzhou, where Ling Heping, vice president of BYD Automotive Engineering Institute, explained the innovation process of a series of solutions launched by BYD in different periods of new energy vehicle development.

Xiaotong feeling,It may be more appropriate to call this communication meeting BYD Science Classroom. This also makes people realize that BYD is paying more and more attention to technology publicity.

Recently, the application of 800v has been discussed on the Internet, but there are no netizens who have not discussed our BYD's 800v technology.

In the eyes of many people, BYD, which is not active in the 800V stage, can easily become the laggard that has not mastered the 800V high-voltage platform.

In fact, BYD's 800V platform can be traced back to 8 years ago, but it has been very low-key internally because it is not necessary to advertise it.

In 2015, BYD launched the industry's first and BYD's first-generation 800V high-voltage platform for the passenger car field, and pioneered the step-up charging technology. Qin EV is the first pure electric model equipped with 800V high-voltage technology, which has a far-reaching impact on the high-voltage route of new energy vehicles.

Four years later, Porsche was the first to keep up with the 800V high-voltage platform.

With continuous updates and iterations, BYD's 800V platform technology is moving towards higher integration, smaller size, and higher power. The eight-in-one electric powertrain launched by BYD in 2022 is based on the e-platform 30 build, which integrates the technical characteristics of various 800V platforms in the past, and further integrates and miniaturizes them with the entire electric drive module.

A high-voltage platform means a new level of performance for power devices, supporting higher voltage inputs and outputs, so faster acceleration, charging, and range can be benefited. Today, most of BYD's models have completed the layout of the latest 800V high-voltage platform.

800V is a standard concept, and does not unilaterally refer to the fact that electric vehicles support 800V voltage during charging, or are able to output 800V. As a simple example, if a model supports 600V, then its internal power devices can achieve 1200V redundancy. This is a testament to the progress of pure electric vehicles, and it is now easier for car companies to advertise their technical level.

But from the perspective of user needs, driving farther is the general expectation, and it is also one of the core reasons for battery life anxiety. From the original intra-city commute (300km) to intercity counterparts (500km+), the mileage demand has increased significantly, and there are more scenarios for emergency energy replenishment. The manufacturing cost of ultra-large capacity batteries is too high, which is reflected in the price of the car, and the consumer group has to pay for it.

After the intense mileage involution, everyone returned to rationality and focused on energy replenishment efficiency and battery life.

BYD's lesson has unlocked the secret of the 800V high-voltage platform, and it has also proved its status as a leader in new energy through its own actions and efforts.

In the early stage of the development of new energy vehicles, the industry was barren, and no one was optimistic about new energy vehicles, let alone charging technology, charging infrastructure, and charging standards. Starting from the hybrid, BYD developed its own AC interface and realized 220V AC charging for electric vehicles for the first time. Subsequently, BYD also launched a variety of charging solutions to solve the problem of having trams without electric piles, and also provided an important reference for the national standard AC and DC charging interface standards.

The concept of commuting electricity in the city and high-speed and long-distance oil consumption was also the earliest proposer of BYD. Since then, China's new energy vehicles have their own Chinese plan.

However, the construction of charging stations is never simply a lip service, and it needs to be negotiated and evaluated with multiple departments in the early stage, and the landing speed is slow and the return on investment cycle is very long. In the early days, there was great resistance to the construction of charging pile facilities. However, BYD finally broke through various problems and opened up the pattern of charging facility construction.

With supporting charging facilities, electric vehicles have life, and it promotes the transformation of public travel electrification.

BYD is well aware that there are charging piles, there is a truth for electric vehicles, and the popularity of charging piles has significantly increased the delivery of BYD's electric vehicles. As of 2019, there are 23,500 E6 units in operation in ShenzhenIn 2016, there were 8,300 E6 units in operation in Taiyuan CityIn 2019, more than 40,000 units of the E6 were sold worldwide. It can be said that this is all due to the popularization of charging facilities.

All this came even earlier than the outbreak of online car-hailing.

In 2019, BYD had a total of 1,255 charging stations and 19,189 charging piles, covering 50+ countries and regions, with a charging capacity of 1040GW·h. Now, don't say that BYD doesn't build a charging network.

The design of dual-gun fast charging is still a bit confusing.

However, the dual-gun fast charging design is another turbo of BYD's charging efficiency after the boost fast charging. It is compatible with all mainstream charging piles, and can transform the existing fast charging piles into supercharging piles. Ling Heping said that the resources of public charging piles, the fast charging power is generally between 60kw and 180kw, and the public charging piles with a current of more than 300A are only 2%, and most of the fast charging is still not fast enough, and the supercharging pile is still a proper scarce resource.

Instead of allowing tram users to seize a very small number of supercharging piles, it is better to revitalize the existing public charging resources from the vehicle side. Relying on the existing charging pile resources, the charging power has been increased from the original 750V 250A to 750V 500A, and the compatible charging piles exceed one million, which is BYD's upflow solution.

It is unrealistic to expect the iteration of charging pile resources, and it is difficult to popularize the construction of charging piles. The efficient use of existing charging resources may be the best solution to improve charging efficiency at present. Ling Heping revealed that since there is dual-gun fast charging, the charging period of users has gradually moved closer to lunch break, 11 o'clock at night, etc.

The charging efficiency is improved, and the willingness of users to use fragmented time to replenish energy is stronger.

The dual-gun fast charging design also comes with easter eggs, and both sides of the vehicle are equipped with charging interfaces, so there is no need to accommodate the location of the charging pile, saving a lot of trouble in moving the car repeatedly. In addition, BYD has also opened the patent of dual-gun fast charging to the industry, bringing solutions that are more in line with the current market situation to the market and influencing the formulation of subsequent new standards.

The environment is difficult to change, and it may not be so important to use technological innovation to adapt to the status quo and do a good job in the energy replenishment and endurance experience of electric vehicles within limited conditions. It is important that consumer demand for electric vehicles to charge fast and go far is met.

The name of the leader of new energy vehicles is not in vain, and BYD's insistence on new energy deserves to be seen by more people.

The industry's first new energy vehicle, the industry's first 800V high-voltage platform, and the industry's first eight-in-one electric powertrain. BYD's forward-looking in the field of new energy is obvious to all, and in the most critical field of energy supplementation, it has given a Chinese plan for new energy vehicles. Constantly discovering and solving problems is the first driving force for BYD to maintain its technological leadership.

The emergence of new technologies will inevitably bring new problems, there are 800V cars, no 800V piles Under the problem, BYD came up with a boost plan, and because the fast charging pile is not fast enough, it launched the industry's first dual-gun fast charging upflow solution. New energy vehicle technology and surrounding supporting facilities, in the short term will still be an unsolvable contradiction, while driving the upgrading of vehicle technology, on the other hand, but also to let the public energy resources match, BYD's technological evolution will not stop.

In addition to this year's Yunyuan control technology and the more ancient blade battery, BYD has been very low-key about its other technologies.

But marketing is also a part of showing the strength of car companies, BYD, which has the status of a new energy leader, naturally wants to bring the technology it has treasured over the years and the original intention of research and development behind it to the Internet stage.

Perhaps, we really have to reacquaint ourselves with BYD.
