In order to better protect the islands and explore the path of green and low-carbon development for the world's inhabited islands, we put forward the goal of building a 'Long Island International Zero Carbon Island', led by three academicians to carry out scientific research, focusing on the current status of carbon sinks, carbon sink increase, clean energy substitution, pollution and carbon reduction, zero-carbon tourism, carbon trading, green finance, international cooperation and other eight directions to carry out in-depth research, and formulated the "Long Island International Zero Carbon Island Development Plan (2023-2035)" and action plans, adhere to both carbon reduction and sink increase, and strive to achieve the goal of zero carbon island as soon as possible. Vigorously promote the substitution of new energy, build a multi-energy complementary clean energy system, implement clean substitution projects for terminal energy, promote new energy vehicles and ships, and open up autonomous driving scenarios in the whole area, and increase the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption on Long Island to 52% by 2027By 2035, more than 90% of new energy transportation will be on land. It is necessary not only to reduce carbon emissions and "reduce consumption", but also to increase sinks and "open source".
Recently, the restoration project of seagrass beds and seaweed farms on Daheishan Island, known as "seabed grass", has been completed. The project involves the reclamation of the coastal zone to the sea, the removal of about 2,600 meters of aquaculture cofferdams, the ecological restoration of 7 hectares of seaweed farms, and the ecological restoration of seagrass beds of 4 hectares. After the completion of the project, ecological services such as biological habitats and ecological carbon sinks will be restored and improved.
This is a microcosm of Yantai's continuous "addition" to increase foreign exchange. In recent years, Changdao has coordinated the promotion of ecological protection and restoration of the whole area of "mountains, rivers, forests, sea and cities", and at the same time, it has taken the carbon sink industry as the main direction of attack, and unswervingly expanded green and grown.
While completing afforestation and transformation of 10,000 acres of degraded forests, and adding 500,000 square meters of green area to Long Island, we will focus on promoting the construction of marine ranches, and the "fishery carbon sink" will continue to grow. At present, Changdao has been approved 14 marine ranches above the provincial level, accounting for 31% of the city's total, "fish one shell and one algae, abalone one kelp" and "abalone one kelp and one sea cucumber" three-dimensional multi-level breeding model is fully promoted, with an algae breeding area of 20,000 mu and a natural seaweed farm of about 060,000 acres, shellfish breeding area of 200,000 acres. It is estimated that the potential of marine aquaculture on Long Island is about 1.71 million mu, and the fishery carbon sink storage is more than 600,000 tons.
In the future, Long Island will do a good job of increasing foreign exchange. Vigorously develop seagrass beds, natural seaweed farms, aquaculture seaweed and other projects to increase sinks, and steadily improve the capacity of blue carbon sinks. Restore and increase forest area, by 2027, the forest area will reach 3,377 hectares, and the forestry carbon sink capacity will reach 2730,000 tons. We will further explore the potential of new marine carbon sinks, explore a comprehensive management model for marine shellfish and fishery sinks, and establish a geological storage management system for marine carbon dioxide.
