In 1986, the Soviet Union's Chernobyl nuclear power plant, in which the fourth reactor suddenly occurred**, a serious nuclear leak.
In order to deal with the problem, the Soviet Union paid a huge price, after more than a year of frantic rescue, about 500,000 people participated, almost directly lost a motorized infantry division, countless sacrifices, indirect losses can not be calculated, only to trap the demon in the "sarcophagus".
However, the West not only gloated, but also belittled the efforts of the Soviet Union as "opaque", "irresponsible", "lying", "indifferent to life", "covering up the truth", "ineffective rescue or handling of problems", etc., in short, belittling in all aspects.
Regarding the attitude of the West towards the Chernobyl accident in the Soviet Union, the British-American drama "Chernobyl" a few years ago, using the TV series to whip the corpse again, has already said everything, and the author will not say much here. In fact, if you look at how the West reports on China, you can also know how the West will report on the Chernobyl accident that year, and the routine is the same.
Confucius said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", since the West is so "righteous", so "moral", and so "honest", all the good qualities of human beings shine in them, pure as a white lotus, and all ugly qualities are someone else's, so that when there is a leak in the nuclear power plant in their own country, the West must be more introspective, otherwise it would not be so critical of the Soviet Union, which worked so hard. Next, let's look at how Britain and the United States deal with their own nuclear leaks.
In March 2023, regulators in Minnesota, the U.S., admitted that about 400,000 gallons (1.51 million liters) of water containing the radioactive substance tritium had leaked from a broken pipe at Exil Energy's nuclear power plant in Monticello.
But the problem is that this happened last year, and it has been several months, and there has been no report from the major **, and the local residents have no knowledge.
In fact, this is not the first time that the United States, as a nuclear power, has concealed nuclear leakage or nuclear contamination.
When the first atomic bomb was tested, the Los Alamo region of New Mexico was chosen, but 500,000 people lived within a 150-mile radius, some of whom were only 12 miles away, and of course the residents were mostly Native Americans and Hispanics. To make matters worse, there was no prior notice and no emergency response after the fact, only telling residents that the nuclear explosion was an "accident of ammunition and pyrotechnics".
If this was done for the first time, it may have been due to secrecy or ignorance of the nuclear contamination problem, but it was later followed by multiple nuclear tests in the Indian homeland. American Indian Ian Zabat complained on behalf of his tribe that "the United States** has turned our homeland into a nuclear test site." Having conducted more than 900 nuclear tests in our homeland (about 100 in the atmosphere and more than 800 underground), the United States ** just wants to ethnically cleanse us!”
In addition, there are countless such irresponsible behaviors in the United States, and interested friends can consult the relevant information. But in propaganda, the United States is a super-responsible nuclear power.
Not long ago, the UK's largest nuclear waste reprocessing site, in Sellafield in north-west England (pictured below), one of Europe's largest nuclear facilities, with the world's largest plutonium stockpiles and more radioactive material than Chernobyl, was exposed to another nuclear leak.
In 2019, cracks appeared in the outer layer of the site's repository responsible for storing toxic radioactive waste, leaking an average of 2 per day3 to 25 cubic meters of radioactive liquid, the leak may continue until 2045-2050. What's more, the leakage situation has worsened in the past two years.
But the problem is that the UK has been hiding it for four years, and now instead of dealing with the nuclear leak, it is still planning to keep it running until 2030.
In fact, the nuclear leakage in Sellafield has occurred many times before. The base began in the 50s of the last century, and occasional leaks were the norm, and there have been at least 20 nuclear accidents, the most recent being in 2000 and 2007, but each time the British either concealed it or played tricks, because once it did, it would be responsible, especially Norway and other countries.
The largest was in 1957, when 11 tons of uranium burned in a fire, causing huge pollution, but Britain concealed it and later discharged nuclear-contaminated sewage into the sea without notifying its neighbors and citizens. Subsequently, the "Wentzkell Nuclear Power Plant" was changed to the current "Sellafield Nuclear Power Plant", seemingly in order to completely cover up the nuclear accident.
In short, Ireland, across the sea from Sellafield, and Norway, which has a huge marine aquaculture industry in Northern Europe (in 1997, Norway measured a nearly 100-fold increase in the content of the radioactive element technetium-99 near the coast), really couldn't stand it, so they went to the United Nations, but Britain did not deny it but did not admit it, and finally it was over. But in propaganda, Britain is still a responsible nuclear power, making unremitting efforts for human justice and a happy life.
Finally, there are three more points worth mentioning about the topic of this article:
First of all, in 2019, British scholar Nell Clarke argued: ironically, 33 years later, it is now the turn of Western countries to learn how to be honest and transparent. The fact is that the West is more dishonest, less transparent, and more deceitful, so it is no wonder that Japan is discharging nuclear sewage and that Western countries do not condemn Japan, because the West is a model for Japan!
Secondly, many things are afraid of comparison, once compared, the true face will be revealed, Britain and the United States are good at packaging themselves with lies, and are good at double standards, but if you "watch their deeds", then it is really morally degenerate. The Soviet Union certainly had problems with the Chernobyl accident, but the aftermath was commendable, while Britain and the United States, on the contrary, did everything they could to conceal and deceive, but they still had the face to criticize the Soviet Union in this way.
Third, although Britain and the United States have committed many evil deeds, they have made themselves "the embodiment of justice and morality" through beautification and propaganda, and belittled their opponents into spokesmen for demons, so that they can still "circle fans" countless top scholars, and even "circle fans" countless top scholars, making them "spiritual Westerners".
