Reading guide:As a leader in the heavy truck industry,The cooperation between FAW Jiefang and Huawei is expected to improve the intelligence and safety of commercial vehicles to a new height。
A few days ago, FAW Jiefang said on the interactive platform that the autonomous driving products cooperated by the company and Huawei are used in L4 low-speed scenarios, and the product development is in the conceptual design stage, and it is expected to be mass-produced by the end of 2025.
Previously, on October 30, 2023, FAW Jiefang and Huawei Technologies signed a comprehensive deepening cooperation agreement at Huawei's Shenzhen Bantian base - a special cooperation memorandum on AI, intelligent driving and intelligent cockpit.
According to FAW Jiefang's announcement at that time, the two parties will further integrate their respective advantageous resources, deepen their strategic partnership in AI large-scale model technology innovation, intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, etc., and lead the development of the industry.
FAW Jiefang said that in terms of AI large-scale model technology innovation, FAW Jiefang will deepen cooperation with Huawei, build a liberated smart brain based on the Huawei Cloud Pangu model, create a personal intelligent work assistant for employees, provide users with one-stop service from car selection to car replacement, and empower the whole business scenario of R&D, production, sales, and service. At the same time, relying on the HUAWEI CLOUD Pangu model, we will establish a large model of the commercial vehicle industry, work together to build industry AI solutions, and actively innovate business models and profit models.
In terms of intelligent driving, FAW Jiefang will carry out multi-level long-term cooperation with Huawei. Relying on FAW Jiefang's strong vehicle R&D capabilities and technical reserves, combined with Huawei's self-developed core components in the field of smart vehicles, advanced vehicle-side autonomous driving algorithms, and leading vehicle-cloud collaboration technologies, the two parties will establish an overall solution for intelligent driving, jointly build competitive intelligent driving products, and promote their implementation.
In addition, FAW Jiefang said that in terms of intelligent cockpit, it has completed the intelligent cockpit model cabin 1 based on the development of Huawei0 development, independent research and development of fuel-saving coach, intelligent diagnosis and repair and other special functions.
In the future, FAW Jiefang will further deepen its cooperation with Huawei, relying on FAW Jiefang's commercial vehicle user scenario definition capabilities and Huawei's intelligent cockpit solutions, to jointly build an intelligent cockpit platform, further enhance market competitiveness, improve driving safety and comfort, and provide users with a new driving and life experience.
FAW Jiefang said that it has many years of successful cooperation experience with Huawei, and has promoted the implementation of many important achievements. Since 2015, the two companies have been working closely together in areas such as public cloud, converged communications, and IPD transformationIn May 2019, the two parties formally established a strategic partnership; In 2021, the two parties reached a comprehensive and deepening strategic cooperation, expanding the cooperation fields to digital cloud base, AI platform, intelligent manufacturing, industrial Internet, talent training, process organization construction and other fields.
Founded on January 18, 2003, FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer of medium, heavy and light trucks and buses.
In 2022, FAW Jiefang achieved vehicle sales of 170,000 units. Among them, 140,000 medium and heavy trucks were used, with a terminal share of 257%, maintaining the first place in the industry, and the sales volume of tractors has been leading the industry for 17 consecutive years.
According to the agreement between FAW Jiefang and Huawei, the two parties will develop autonomous driving products for L4 low-speed scenarios. Based on this, it is speculated that the technology is likely to be applied to closed scenarios such as mines.
Due to the repetitive routes, lower speeds, and fewer traffic participants of mine trucks, it is theoretically a superior scenario to achieve L4 driverless. In addition, the national policy level is also promoting the transformation of mining operation vehicles to unmanned driving.
In 2020, eight ministries and commissions, including the National Energy Administration, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Coal Regulatory Bureau, issued the "Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Intelligent Development of Coal Mines", requiring intelligent and unmanned transportation of coal mines by 2025.
At the same time, the local government has also actively promoted mining enterprises to reduce personnel and further promote the development of unmanned mines.
On April 27, 2023, the people of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region issued the Notice on Several Measures to Further Strengthen the Safety Management of Open-pit Coal Mines in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region [2023] No. 11, pointing out that within the 300-meter working line, the number of workers in a single shift on all steps from top to bottom shall not exceed 29.
According to the "Nine Chapters of Intelligent Driving", in order to complete this political task, and in order to avoid being forced to suspend business for rectification due to the death of personnel, many mining areas will even require bidders to have unmanned technical qualifications when bidding for earthmoving projects.
From the perspective of the enterprise itself, the traditional mine transportation vehicle needs to be equipped with 2-3 drivers per vehicle, and the labor cost of each vehicle on the enterprise side is hundreds of thousands of yuan per year. If an autonomous driving kit is added to an existing vehicle, the cost of a single vehicle may only be 5-100,000 yuan.
Huawei and FAW Jiefang announced that the L4 low-speed scenario autonomous driving product that will be launched in 2025 has a high probability that it will be used in closed scenarios similar to mines. In the long run, the application of autonomous driving technology in this scenario will greatly improve operational safety and reduce the operating costs of enterprises.
Although the market space for L4 commercial vehicles is large, it is still difficult to promote due to the high unit price of vehicles and slow updates, and many domestic companies have focused on the layout of commercial vehicle autonomous driving.
