During the War of Liberation, our army had more than 20 corps, why did Chen Geng's corps rank first in influence? There are the following reasons:

First, it has been established for the longest time.

In 1946, when the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army was established, Chen Geng's 4th Column had 4 brigades under its jurisdiction, with the largest number of troops, and fought alone. In July 1947, Chen Geng's Corps was established, with jurisdiction over the 4th Column, 9th Column, and the 38th Army of the uprising, with a strength of 80,000 troops.

Chen Geng's corps is the earliest corps established by our army, and its strength exceeds that of the Northwest Field Army.

Second, the role is equivalent to an army all the way.

In terms of the establishment of Chen Geng's corps, it belonged to Liu Deng's Central Plains Field Army. After its establishment, the corps was directly under the command of the First Central Military Commission, independently responsible for a strategic direction, and undertook campaign and combat missions.

On the battlefield of the Central Plains, it was called the three-way army together with Liu Deng's army and Chen Suhuaye.

Third, the record is the largest.

Soon after its establishment, in order to alleviate the strategic pressure of Liu Deng's army in the direction of northern Shaanxi and the Central Plains, Chen Geng's corps forcibly crossed the Yellow River and fought deep behind enemy lines.

The corps moved to western Henan, southern Shaanxi, and northern Hubei, and opened up a theater of operations on its own, annihilating a large number of the enemy's living forces.

Before 1949, Chen Geng's corps destroyed more enemies than the North China Field Army. After being reorganized into the 4th Corps, another 210,000 enemies were annihilated. The 4th column ranks first in the number of enemies destroyed in all columns of our army, and ranks first in the number of captured ** generals.

Fourth, Chen Geng is famous.

General Chen Geng's qualifications and achievements have reached the level of marshal.

1. The first phase of Huangpu is one of the three heroes of Huangpu, and Lin Shuai is the fourth phase of Huangpu.

2. Experience legends. Chen Geng served as Sun Yat-sen's guard, saved Chiang Kai-shek's life, followed *** to work in special science, sat in the prison of the Kuomintang, and was the most legendary senior general in our army.

3. Outstanding military ability. During the Anti-Japanese War, the 386 Brigade was the most famous and had the best record. In the War of Liberation, Chen Geng was good at leading troops and fighting wars.

In 1947, the marshal sent a telegram to the city, proposing that Chen Geng, Su Yu, and ** could be called the five tiger generals of our army.
