The construction of Minhang swimming pool began on June 1, 1960 and was completed on July 28, which took only 58 days. Minhang swimming pool covers an area of 5,671 square meters, 50 meters long and 20 meters wide, concrete structure, no steel bars in the middle, the pool wall is made of bricks, and the attached houses cover an area of 300 square meters.
On August 2, 1960, the third page of "Liberation**" published the news of the completion and opening of the Minhang swimming pool.
In order to strive for the completion and opening of the country as soon as possible, the person in charge at that time convened many meetings of the heads of the relevant departments of the factories, schools and districts to study, and first solved the land 855 acres, and then solved the problem of 3,500 tons of building materials. After everyone's hard work day and night, the Minhang swimming pool was finally completed on time and officially opened on August 1, 1960.

It takes 58 days to build a swimming pool, which is still amazing even if the construction methods and equipment are more advanced today. At that time, in Minhang, the construction scene in full swing could be seen everywhere.
The "Minhang Street" area, where the Minhang swimming pool is located, is a great feat of the builders back then. In order to solve the housing and living needs of more than 100,000 workers working in Minhang at that time, under the joint efforts of many builders day and night, a street in Minhang was completed in just 78 days.

In 1973, the Minhang swimming pool was overhauled with a reinforced concrete structure and another pool in the pool. In the same year, a 320-meter-long perimeter wall was built. In 1979, the men's locker room, which was originally only 150 square meters, was expanded to 3875 square meters for indoor skating and other activities in winter. In 1982, a 66-square-meter children's pool was added to Minhang Swimming Pool. In 1984, Minhang Swimming Pool added mosaics to the original earthen pool, installed circulating filtration equipment, and built a 100-square-meter communication room, ticket room and service room at the gate. In 1986, Minhang Swimming Pool renovated and expanded the houses of the women's locker room.
For a long time, Minhang Swimming Pool has adhered to the principle of organizing and opening up, not only organizing the majority of employees, militia, primary and secondary school students, but also organizing students to come to Beiqiao, Tangwan and other places to participate in the pool. In the sixties and seventies of the last century, Minhang swimming pool also received foreign guests from Cambodia, the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Switzerland and other countries, and interns from some factories in Minhang from Norway, Pakistan and Vietnam also came to swim in the pool. In particular, on September 19, 1963, a Cambodian sports delegation led by Lieutenant Colonel Bu Sen An, the former deputy commissioner of the General Administration of Sports of Cambodia, visited the pool, and Bu Sen An praised the thrifty and entrepreneurial spirit of Minhang Swimming Pool.
In addition to swimming activities in summer, Minhang Swimming Pool also pays attention to using the existing conditions to carry out various forms of sports activities. In the winter of 1980 and 1984, a total of 75,972 people participated in indoor skating activities; In the winter of 1984 and 1986, an open ballroom dance was organized, with a total of 44,283 people attended. In addition, Minhang Swimming Pool also hosted various competitions. In addition to swimming competitions, there are also badminton, fancy rope skipping, shuttlecock kicking, martial arts, bridge quiz and other events.

In September 1992, the former Shanghai County and the former Minhang District were "withdrawn from the second and built one" and the new Minhang District was established. Today's Minhang District Swimming Pool is located at No. 181 Xinling Road, which is divided into two parts: an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. The water depth of the outdoor pool is 08 meters, consisting of a paddling pool and a play slide. There is a standard pool of 25 to 16 meters and a doll pool specially designed for children, and the water depth of the standard pool is 12～2.3 meters, a total of 6 lanes, the water depth of the doll pond is 08 meters. The main function is to provide public welfare sports services, service guarantee area junior sports school swimming team and amateur swimming team training, primary and secondary school swimming training, etc. In 2023, it was rated as a safe open swimming pool for 33 consecutive years by the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau.
