The International Race Walking Race begins.
Shanghai is the birthplace of race walking in China, and modern athletics was introduced in the second half of the 19th century, with mostly expatriate participants walking on church lawns and roads along the Suzhou Creek. The International Race Walking Tournament originated in 1904 (the 30th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty) and is held every winter. At first, the contestants were all foreigners, but by 1922 Chinese had joined. The whole race is 279 kilometers, must be completed within 3 hours and 20 minutes, starting from Jing'an Temple Road (Nanjing West Road), Kade Road (Shimen 2nd Road) Wangjiawei, and ending at Weihaiwei Road (Weihai Road) Maho Road (Huangpi North Road) Racecourse Grandstand. This event has also become a sports drama for old Shanghai to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new.
In 1926, Zhou Yuyu participated in the International Race Walking Race for the first time and won the first place in the youth group.
