As the world's leading international exhibition of electronic products and technology, with the advent of the era of smart cars, enterprises related to the automotive industry chain have also emerged at the annual CES since 2016. At the 2024 CES, many car brands also brought their latest concept cars, and even Vietnam's new car manufacturers flexed their muscles at the 2024 CES.
So, what new cars or concept cars will the major car brands bring to the 2024 CES?
Vietnam's new powerhouse Vinefast is building an all-electric pickup truck concept
In the new energy era, not only the domestic automobile market has given birth to a large number of new power brands, but also overseas markets. For example, Vinefast, in fact, is Vietnam's new power brand, for most people, often familiar with German, French, European, American, Japanese, Korean car companies, other countries' car brands in addition to India's Tata Motors for the acquisition of Land Rover to make it famous, more car companies in the hearts of the Chinese people basically do not have much impression, let alone new power brands.
Although the car is not very familiar with the Vinefast brand, judging from the pure electric pickup truck concept car unveiled by Vinefast, every detail of the design seems to be familiar. For example, in the design of the front face logo, it is highly similar to the Chinese car brand Changan, and those who don't know think it is a pickup truck of Changan Automobile.
Fortunately, the illuminated logo and headlight group on the front face of the new car still give the vehicle a strong sense of future technology. Coming to the side, the door opening method of the whole vehicle is the same as that of Rolls-Royce, and the method of opening the door is adopted, as for whether it will be retained after mass production, no one can say. After all, the Kia EV5 concept car also adopts a bi-door design, but after mass production, it has become a regular opening method.
Finally, in terms of tail design, it basically adopts the same design language as the headlight cluster on the front face. It is worth mentioning that although the tailgate of the cargo box adopts the traditional pull-down opening method, the car's cargo box and compartment adopt a through-type design, which can form a large flat layer after the rear seats are folded down, which is still extremely rare in pickup trucks.
According to the official statement, the concept car was jointly developed by Vinfast and Australian design studio Gomitiv, and it took 8,000 hours to design, and I don't know what you think about such a design. Unfortunately, the power information of the new car has not been officially announced, and it is unknown when it will be mass-produced.
Hyundai Motor launches a flying taxi
Coming to the side of the traditional car giants, Hyundai Motor is no longer satisfied with traditional cars at the 2024 CES, but directly "goes to the sky" and unveils the S-A2 flying taxi.
According to reports, the S-A2 is a V-tail electric flying car, which is not so much a flying car as an old-fashioned propeller aircraft from the design point of view. According to the official version, the S-A2 can operate at 1500 feet (about 457.).2 meters) at an altitude of 120 miles per hour (about 193.).12km h) with a range of 25-40 miles (40.).2-64.3km)。According to the plan, the flying taxi will conduct initial test flights by the end of this year, apply for a US airworthiness certificate in the middle of this year, and officially launch commercial service in 2028.
According to Hyundai's plan, the S-A2 will enter the market in 2028, but there are still many problems behind it. The first thing is the safety problem, the aviation field is far more demanding on safety than the car, whether the S-A2 is safe no one dares to make a guarantee, and in terms of endurance, the S-A2 is less than 100km, and it is obviously not enough to put it on the market on a large scale only with the current endurance.
Taking 10,000 steps back, even if flying cars can ensure safe entry into the market, how many people can afford the high cost? New energy vehicles cannot completely replace fuel vehicles, and the concept of flying cars will not become a mainstream means of transportation, at least for a short time.
The Hyundai Mobion concept was unveiled
In addition to flying cars, Hyundai also unveiled the Mobion concept car, and the biggest highlight of the whole car is the use of the e-corner system, so that all four wheels can reach a steering angle of 90 degrees, and it is easy to achieve fixed circle rotation.
Officially, the core of the e-corner system is the "in wheel" technology. Instead of a single large drive motor commonly used in electric vehicles, four small motors are placed inside each wheel, a configuration that enables each wheel to generate electricity independently. In 2023, Hyundai Mobis has successfully conducted road tests of the system's driving ability around the world.
In addition to the e-corner system, the Hyundai Mobion Concept also has excellent autonomous driving sensors and headlight technology. As part of mobion's design, two short-range lidars in its autonomous driving sensors are located near the headlights, and another long-range lidar is mounted at the front of the vehicle, an arrangement that helps with lateral displacement and effective obstacle identification.
In terms of headlight technology, the "ground projection" function is even more attractive, which complements the mobility function of the e-corner system by providing the direction of travel of the vehicle. For example, during diagonal or lateral movement, ground projection can use the light of the 360-degree spectrum to illuminate the direction of the vehicle on the ground, and even use ground projection to generate ** crossings for pedestrians to use when detected.
Honda unveiled two new concept cars
Coming to Honda, as a Honda with the ultimate pursuit of performance, it has not forgotten its own performance and handling attributes after the transformation to electrification. At the 2024 CES, Honda officially unveiled two "Honda 0" series of pure electric concept cars, namely Saloon and Space-Hub. The new model will be built with Honda's latest concept and the new Honda logo for the first time, and will be launched in North America as soon as 2026, followed by Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.
It is understood that the Saloon concept car, as the flagship model of the "Honda 0" series, will be produced on the exclusive platform for electric vehicles, and the production version will be the first to land in the North American market in 2026. On the outside, the car's efforts to reduce drag can be clearly seen, with a wedge-shaped nose design and an exaggerated aerodynamic package, as well as a large screen in the grille position to add a sense of ceremony, like the protagonist of a science fiction movie.
As for the Space-Hub concept car, this is an MPV model, the overall design is in line with the SALOON concept car, such as the elongated SALOON concept car, the biggest highlight of the vehicle is in the layout of the interior space, its rear seats adopt a counter-seat layout, breaking the traditional MPV seat layout way. It is reported that the Space-Hub concept car may become the successor of the Odyssey, and if the production version of the model also retains this design, it is believed that it will still receive a lot of attention.
Write at the end:
In addition to the above concept cars, there are also a number of concept cars unveiled at the 2024 CES, including the latest concept cars of traditional auto giants and concept models of new overseas brands. It is worth mentioning that the domestic brands Geely Galaxy E8 and Xpeng Flying Car were also unveiled at this CES, showing the strength of China's automobile manufacturing to global users. As for when these concept cars will be mass-produced, and whether the design of the concept cars will be restored as much as possible after mass production, no one can say.
