More than 1,000 pieces of cultural relics tell the story of the ancient capital of Beijing

After more than a year of renovation and upgrading, the Capital Museum will be reopened on the first day of the Lunar New Year. In the rearranged basic exhibition, more than 1,100 pieces (sets) of the Shoubo collection over the years and newly unearthed cultural relics in Beijing tell the story of the ancient capital. Exhibitions such as the Old Beijing Folk Customs Exhibition and the "Brilliant Central Axis" Exhibition will be opened at the same time, and a series of New Year activities will be held to invite citizens and tourists to share the New Year's cultural feast.

The basic exhibition is named "A Powerful Witness of Chinese Civilization - General History of Beijing", covering an area of 4,900 square meters. This is the first large-scale change of the exhibition in 18 years. Starting from the Ming Dynasty, the exhibition took the lead in opening 8 units, including "Dawn of Civilization", "Beginning of the Founding of the City", "Important Towns in the North", "The Beginning of the Founding of the Capital", "Zhaojian of the Great Capital", "Model of the Capital", "Prosperity of the Beijing Division" and "Dawn of the Ancient Capital", displaying more than 1,100 pieces (sets) of cultural relics. A number of new archaeological discoveries in Beijing and new achievements in Beijing history research in recent years will be unveiled.

On the 5th floor of the square hall, it is still telling a piece of Beijing flavor stories with pure Beijing accent and Beijing rhyme, and the form and content of expression have new highlights. At the "Old Beijing Folk Customs Exhibition", 400 pieces (groups) of cultural relics are divided into "Spring - Welcoming Spring in the Cold", "Summer - When the Sky is Full of Hot Summer", "Autumn - Infinite Autumn Light and Beauty", "Winter - Twilight and Cold Business", etc., telling about the customs of the year, traditional food, old customs, cultural landscapes, etc., vividly reproducing the pure folk customs and long and splendid history and culture of old Beijing.

A series of wonderful contents such as the "Brilliant Central Axis" exhibition will also be presented to the audience with the re-opening of the first expo. "Exhibition of Modern and Modern Paintings of Famous Artists in the Capital Museum", "Exhibition of Gold and Stone Calligraphy in the Capital Museum", "Yandi Bronze Art Exhibition", "Ancient Jade Art Exhibition" and "Millennium Treasure of the Prosperous Era - Beijing Ancient Pagoda Cultural Relics Exhibition" will be unveiled. The temporary exhibition "A Century of Archaeology in Xinjiang" will also be opened.

During the Spring Festival, Shoubo also prepared a series of cultural activities to invite the audience to "look for dragons" in the museum. Visitors can find cultural relics with dragon elements in the exhibition hall, take photos and share them on personal social platforms, and collect 3 cultural relics** to have the opportunity to receive a group fan stamped with the characteristic seal of the Year of the Dragon. At the same time, the museum will focus on traditional folk customs and key cultural relics collections, and launch two series of activities: "Jilong Welcomes Spring" and "Treasure of the Town Museum", so that the audience can understand traditional folk customs and skills in interesting handicrafts, and appreciate the charm of Beijing culture.

Professional opera performers will also appear in the 4th floor of the Shoubo Theater to present a series of performances for the audience and promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture.

Tips for visiting. The Capital Museum will resume its opening on February 10 (the first day of the first lunar month), and the opening hours on that day will be from 12 o'clock to 5 p.m., and admission will stop at 4 p.m. From February 11 (the second day of the first lunar month), the museum will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admission at 4 p.m.), and will be closed on Mondays. Visitors need to make an online reservation in advance through the WeChat public service account of the Capital Museum.
