China is a multi-ethnic country with history, culture and heritage, and there are many and complicated legends and customs around the people's living habits, people, geography, etc., among which there are several sayings about sending the poor, but they all express the expectations of our people for a better and prosperous life.
The time of sending the poor basically tends to be the first month of the lunar year, which is nothing more than the beginning of the lunar year.
Fifth, the beginning. VI.II.
Ten. 9. The saying on the last day of the first lunar month means to sacrifice to poor ghosts or poor gods.
For the "poor ghosts" and the "five poor" saying, sending the poor means driving away the "intellectual poor", "learning poor", "literary poor", "life poor" and "handing over the poor", and the "five" of "broken" refers to these five poor ghosts, which is called "sending the five poor". In order to completely send away the five poor or let the poor ghost leave happily, some areas have to send him a plate to wrap up, eat porridge, and even make colored paper into a "female ghost" appearance, and move it out of the house "really" in a decent manner, and naturally there are also "wealth" accumulated at home before the fifth day of the first lunar month, such as domestic garbage, rags, and so on, because before the fifth day of the first month, the wealth is collected, and not a single stitch or thread at home can be left of the house, only on this day, these "dirty things" have become "poor ghosts" again, and must be cleaned out. Naturally, firecrackers are indispensable, and there is a saying that it rings from inside the house to the outside of the house, and now people live in most commercial houses, and this custom must not be able to do it.
Legend has it that the poor god is Jiang Ziya's wife Ma. said that Jiang Ziya's family was very poor, and he didn't marry Ma in his 60s until he was in his 70s, but it didn't take long for this Ma to leave him. Later, when Jiang Ziya was a god, Ma Shi hurriedly came to ask for a seal, and Jiang Ziya gave her a poor god, and said, "You can go except for blessed places." Therefore, in order to prevent poor ghosts from entering their homes during the Spring Festival, some people will hang red blessing characters on the door to stop her.
There is also a legend that the poor ghost is the son of the ancient emperor Zhuan.
This son was called "the poor man" because he was thin and short, liked to wear tattered clothes and drink porridge. On the last day of the first lunar month, the poor man died, and when the people in the palace buried him, they said, "Send the poor son today", and since then, the poor man has become a "poor ghost" that everyone avoids. According to legend, on the sixth day of the first lunar month, if someone's house is dirty, he will enter this house, resulting in the phenomenon of breaking money, so every year on the sixth day of the first lunar month, he must "send the poor".
These legends and customs have their positive aspects, such as advocating cleaning these days, and those who know allusions in this regard can also tell their children and grandchildren about the "ancient", "showing" our culture, as for really driving out the "poor roots", we also need to work hard and have the courage to open up, isn't it, dear readers!
