According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to sign point guard Spencer Dinwiddie to his contract for the remainder of the season, following his waiver.
Dinwiddie spent the first half of the season with the Brooklyn Nets, which was part of his second time with the team. Before the trade deadline passed on Thursday afternoon, Brooklyn traded Dinwiddie to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young, but Toronto chose to give up Dinwiddie rather than keep him.
Dinwiddie is averaging 12 per game in 48 games this year6 points and 60 assists, adding some veteran depth to the Lakers' bench.
The Los Angeles team has remained silent this trade season, deciding not to close a deal before the deadline. Instead, the Lakers opted to investigate the buyout market with several veterans and signed the Los Angeles native on their first transfer after the deadline.
The Lakers currently have a 28-26 record this season, which is good enough for a team that finishes ninth in the West. After Los Angeles' win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night, point guard D'Angelo Russell welcomed Dinwiddie to the team.
I'm a fan of him. You'll get to know him soon," Russell told **.
