Although off-road motorcycles are niche, they have always been chased by motorcycle veterans and those who yearn for freedom in the mountains because of their high playability. Kawasaki Motorcycle's off-road vehicle series has always occupied a place among many models with its performance. Kawasaki's 2024 KLX230 series was recently unveiled, and in general, there are several changes: a new design, engine upgrades, and chassis upgrades. Let's talk to you in detail from these aspects.
As we said at the beginning, dirt bikes are a niche but fun type of car, and that's why; Kawasaki saw a business opportunity here last year at KThere are up to 7 models launched on the LX platform, just to occupy enough users' minds in one go. The 2024 KLX230 series is available in two versions, namely the S version and the SM version.
In terms of power, it is still the same 233cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC engine, but Kawasaki has optimized it with narrower intakes and smaller 4mm intake valves, and lengthened exhaust pipes; This improves its dynamics in the lower and mid-range ranges, while optimizing the ECU.
In terms of chassis, in order to improve the wheel travel and ground clearance, it is also necessary to ensure that the seat height will not increase significantly; Kawasaki redesigned the original subframe; With a 15 mm increase in seat height, the front wheel travel has been increased by 43 mm and the rear wheel by 66 mm. At the same time, the ground clearance has come to a height of 240mm, which is a full 20mm higher than that of the 2023 model. It is important to know that for this type of off-road vehicle, a higher ground clearance means better passability.
Thanks to the KLX230 series geometry and suspension adjustments, the 2024 SM version is equipped with 17-inch wheels, and features a new Uni-Trak rear linkage and 37mm inverted front reduction, and the springs can be set hard and soft for better handling on the street.
In addition to the engine and chassis changes, the S version also features a newly designed aluminum rocker arm that is able to lighten the 17kg vehicle weight. A lighter rear brake master cylinder is also used, and the rear shock absorber also supports preload adjustment.
And whether it's the S or SM version, they have a handlebar switch for switching the front and rear ABS on and off while riding. As a safety feature during cycling, the system will adjust to the default ABS after the ignition is turned off and restarted. At the same time, the 2024 model year supports smartphone connectivity.
In terms of appearance, the 2024 KLX fuel tank, fuel tank cap, and fuel tank side cover have all been ergonomically adjusted and redesigned. The headlights feature a new LED package. The S version will have flatter seats, while the SM version will have thicker seats.
Overall, the 2024 KLX230 series has a lot of upgrades, and there will be significant changes in performance and actual riding experience. Riders who like off-road motorcycles can pay attention to it.
