"Sticking to my original intention allows me to always maintain peace of mind and devote myself to my work without distractions. This is a sentence said by Liu Wei, a Qilu craftsman and a bridge expert of China Construction Eighth Bureau and a company. Having been deeply involved in the field of bridge engineering for 27 years, Liu Wei's original intention is to continuously achieve new technological breakthroughs and build higher-quality bridges for the country and the people.

In March 2018, Liu Wei led the research team to take the lead in the Binzhou G228 project as a pioneer team, opening roads in the mountains and building bridges in the water to overcome difficulties, and finally contributed to the official start of construction of the project in April 2022. Today, the project has the "Taoer River Bridge", which will be the world's first span mixed beam bridge after completion, and has become a "star project" that has attracted much attention. After nearly 6 years in the project, Liu Wei is still working on the front line of construction as an expert. He often said: "This bridge carries the expectations of local residents, the people who built the bridge are accumulating virtue and doing good, it is still standing after a hundred years, and the spirit of the bridge builders will be passed on forever, we must strictly control the quality." It is this kind of family and country feelings and craftsman spirit that spur him to seek innovation and change and break through many difficulties.

"Gou is new, every day is new, and every day is new" is Liu Wei's motto, and he believes that the foundation of innovation should come from inheritance. On his desk there are professional books, classics, the latest ** compilations, and foreign books and periodicals from forty years ago. It is this kind of theoretical in-depth cultivation that has made Liu Wei comfortable in innovation, and among the 69 patents reported by the Binzhou G228 project alone, 50 were proposed by Liu Wei, accounting for 72%. He also participated in the research and development of two provincial construction methods, published 6 articles, obtained 26 patents (including 16 first-person invention patents), participated in the compilation of the book "Research on the Structural System and Seismic Performance of Prefabricated Prefabricated Bridge Piers", and participated in the compilation of the "Technical Standard for Prefabricated Urban Bridges" (Shandong Engineering Construction Standard DB37 T5251-2023).

While deeply cultivating the theory, Liu Wei focused on promoting the development of the industry and carried out various technological innovations with the Taoer River Bridge as the carrier. It is generally believed that in the 300-600 meter span bridge, the economic span bridge type cable-stayed bridge is the first choice, but subdivided into the field of 300-400 meters, does the cable-stayed bridge still have advantages? Liu Wei and his team members continued to study, and proved that when the bridge span is 338 meters, the rigid bridge is a better choice, the cost is 12% lower than the cable-stayed bridge, and the whole life cycle cost is reduced by more than 20%, providing a better choice for the whole industry in the design and construction of bridges with a span of 300-400 meters.

Liu Wei's difficulties go far beyond that. The construction content of the project includes 105 meters of ultra-long piles, 14-storey piers and the world's largest 0 blocks, which cannot be met by traditional craftsmanship and experience. Liu Wei led the team to turn pressure into motivation, took the initiative to lead, solve and solve problems, developed large-diameter ultra-deep pile multi-path mud circulation system, intelligent hanging basket hoisting machine and other construction tools, and tried innovative topics such as graphene anti-corrosion and domestic carbon fiber composite material application. In terms of precast beam construction, Liu Wei led the team to spend 4 years of theoretical analysis and more than 300 tensile tests in 1 year, and realized the breakthrough of prefabricated pre-tensioning prefabricated equipment from zero to one, which not only solved the problems of foundation displacement caused by the bulky traditional pedestal, uncoordinated deformation of the pedestal, and concrete cracking of the tension beam, but also realized the effects of internal force offsetting at both ends of the pedestal, turnover utilization, reducing the amount of concrete, and saving project costs.

Liu Wei also pioneered the "Chief Engineer's Office" and led the three chief engineers to work together to conduct technical exchanges. Sometimes people will quarrel over a certain opinion, but the more innovative ideas are arguing, the clearer they become, and the deeper the feelings become. When facing workers, Liu Wei has never felt that he is an expert, and every time he organizes technical seminars or goes to the production line, he has to communicate directly with industrial workers**. He often said: "This little bit of my ability was taught to me by the first-line masters." Treating team members, regardless of age or seniority, Liu Wei has an equal attitude, actively gives technical guidance, and encourages everyone to actively participate in scientific research.

With 27 years of deep ploughing in bridge engineering, Liu Wei has participated in the technical support of more than 200 bridges and presided over the construction of 74 extra-large bridges, of which 2 won the Luban Prize. Liu Wei was awarded the senior engineer and first-class constructor, and is a member of the "Bridge Expert Group" of the New Technology Promotion Branch of the China Communications and Transportation Association, and was hired as an honorary professor by Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology.
