Tao Yuanming (365-427 AD) was a poet who was highly admired by our later generations, also known as Tao Qian, the character Yuanliang, and was known as "Mr. Wuliu". He was a literary giant in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the founder of pastoral poetry in China, integrating the beauty of pastoral life into poetry and opening up a new artistic world for us. His works such as "Words of Return", "Returning to the Garden and Pastoral Home", "Drinking", "The Story of the Peach Blossom Spring", etc., can be called treasures in the history of poetry.
Tao Yuanming's great-grandfather, Tao Kan, was a famous general in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and although his family background was prominent, however, his family was not wealthy. Despite his poverty, he always maintained his love for knowledge and tirelessly read and wrote poetry. He was diligent and studious, well-read, and developed a noble character that did not love vanity or covet wealth and wealth.
When he was 29 years old, Tao Yuanming stepped into the officialdom with full enthusiasm and ideals, and took up the position of Jiangzhou sacrificial wine. He was determined to work for the welfare of the people and realize his lofty ambitions. However, the reality of officialdom is far from his ideals. In the face of all kinds of darkness and sinister officialdom, he resolutely chose to retreat bravely, and this courage and determination made people awe-inspiring.
Although his career was not smooth for the first time, Tao Yuanming did not give up his political ideals and enthusiasm. Six years later, he stepped into officialdom again. However, he was deeply disappointed by the political turmoil and corruption of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The ruling class's pursuit of personal self-interest has completely replaced concern for the state and the people.
In this case, Tao Yuanming chose to use poetry to express his heart: "Business songs are not my business, and I am dependent on coupling farming." He knew he couldn't change the situation, so he decided to go back to the countryside again. At this time, it coincided with the death of his mother, which also gave him a reason to resign and go home.
In the autumn of 405 AD, Tao Yuanming took office again and became the commander of Pengze County, not far from his hometown. However, on his 81st day as a prefectural magistrate, fate once again put him to the test. The official reported to him that the superintendent sent by the county was about to inspect Pengze County. This was originally a routine official business, but in Tao Yuanming, who was unwilling to stoop to the powerful, it became a turning point in his career.
His subordinates advised him to solemnly welcome the arrival of the superintendent, put on neat clothes, and tie a headband to show respect. However, Tao Yuanming knew that the post supervisor was a villain who was unlearned, tended to be inflammatory, and was good at flattery. He thought that he would have to grovel to such a person, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of grief and indignation in his heart.
He sighed angrily: "How can I bend my waist to the village children for five buckets of rice!" This sentence expresses the arrogance in his heart and his contempt for the powerful. After saying that, he resolutely returned home, packed his luggage, left the yamen with his wife, and returned to his beloved hometown. This resignation also announced the end of his thirteen-year career.
In the past thirteen years, Tao Yuanming has always carried it"Great Help".ideals, and strive to find a glimmer of light in the dark political whirlpool of the last years of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. However, the cruelty of reality and the sinister nature of officialdom disappointed him again and again, until his final despair. His ideals were shattered, but his spirit did not give in.
Tao Yuanming, who returned to Chaisang's hometown, deeply felt that this complicated world was far from his own interests and ideals. He made up his mind to live in seclusion in the mountains and forests and live a life free from the world. In his spare time, he injects his emotions and thoughts into poems and articles, expressing his inner world with words. "The Story of the Peach Blossom Spring".It is one of the masterpieces he created during this period.
In 427 A.D., the great pastoral poet completed his sixty-three years of life. However, what he left to posterity was not only those well-known pastoral poems, but also his noble qualities and firm beliefs. Tao Yuanming's name, like his works, will always shine in the sky of literature.
