The difference between CNC lathes and CNC milling machines
Although CNC lathes and CNC milling machines are both CNC machine tools, there are certain differences in their applications, structures, processing methods and processing objects.
First of all, from the perspective of the scope of application, CNC lathes are mainly used to process rotary parts, such as shafts, discs, etc., while CNC milling machines are widely used in processing planes, curved surfaces, grooves, etc. with complex shapes.
Secondly, from a structural point of view, a CNC lathe is usually composed of a spindle, a turret, a feed system, etc., while a CNC milling machine includes a spindle, a tool magazine, a feed system, etc. In addition, the turret and spindle of the CNC lathe generally adopt an integrated design, which makes its machining accuracy higher, while the tool magazine and spindle of the CNC milling machine can be adjusted independently, with higher flexibility.
In terms of processing methods, CNC lathes mainly use turning processing methods to process workpieces through the rotation of tools, while CNC milling machines use milling methods to process workpieces through the feed and rotation of tools. Due to the difference in processing methods, the tools of CNC lathes and CNC milling machines are also different, and the tools of CNC milling machines are more extensive, which can include milling cutters, drills, reamers, etc.
Finally, from the perspective of processing objects, CNC lathes are mainly for the processing of rotary parts, such as various shafts, discs, etc., while CNC milling machines are suitable for the processing of planes, curved surfaces, grooves, etc. with complex shapes.
To sum up, although CNC lathes and CNC milling machines are both a kind of CNC machine tools, there are certain differences in the scope of application, structure, processing methods and processing objects. In practical applications, it is necessary to select the right machine tool according to the specific machining requirements and the characteristics of the workpiece.
