In this Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, Yang Chaohong, who came to Xiamen from Kaohsiung to start a business for ten years, took his family to the mainland for the first time.
Across the shallow strait, reunion is an inextricable nostalgia, and it is full of infinite expectations for the new year.
Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Yang Chaohong came to Xiamen ten years ago to start a business and now has his own enterprises here.
During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, Yang Chaohong took his wife and daughter, father-in-law, mother-in-law, uncle and aunt from Taiwan to Xiamen for the New Year. Yang Chaohong's father-in-law, Zhu Minglin, who is 74 years old this year, specially wore a Tang costume brought from Taiwan on Chinese New Year's Eve and wore a hat embroidered with the word "dragon".
Yang Chaohong's father-in-law Zhu Minglin: Originally, dragons represent Chinese, so I always wear dragon hats. Because my wife is a dragon, of course I have to wear a dragon hat and follow her at all times. Since I was a child, I knew that we were the descendants of the dragon, and after waiting for more than 70 years, I was finally able to celebrate the New Year in the mainland.
Xiamen Taiwanese businessman Yang Chaohong: The dragon is a symbol full of vitality. As long as you are Chinese, you are full of expectation, respect, strength and inheritance for dragons.
The dragon travels all over the world, and home is the eternal harbor. In the lively New Year's market, in the crowded crowd, the family walked together.
Here, there are bamboo shoot jelly that I have never tasted, as well as the youngest daughter's favorite hair cake and my father-in-law's favorite mochi ......Between the surprise and the familiar taste, the appearance of the hometown in the memory gradually becomes clear, so intimate.
Xiamen Taiwanese businessman Yang Chaohong: Because we are all descendants of the dragon, our family members are also looking for their roots when they come back this time. For example, my parents-in-law are Putian Xianyou, so they went to Putian again this time, and my father-in-law's favorite thing is to listen to the local sound. Like my own hometown is Quanzhou Nan'an, I also hope to say that one day I can bring my father back to Quanzhou Nan'an, let's go to find our roots.
In 2018, Yang Chaohong founded a Taiwanese youth entrepreneurship and employment base in Xiamen. He named the base "Longwei", hoping that everyone would be as brave and fearless as a dragon on the road to entrepreneurship. Nowadays, more and more Taiwanese young people have chosen to realize their dreams in the mainland.
Xiamen Taiwanese businessman Yang Chaohong: The meaning of the base in Chinese is "Longwei." I also hope that entrepreneurs have the power and ferocity of a dragon, and I also hope that everyone will face all challenges with this dragon spirit. I think we Chinese have a special affection for the Year of the Dragon. It is a churning and upward feeling, and I hope that everyone can be healthier and have a good development in the Year of the Dragon.
Continuing the tradition of more than 30 years, on the first day of the first month of the Year of the Dragon, the Spring Festival fireworks in Xiamen and Kinmen will be set off simultaneously across the sea. Brilliant fireworks soar into the sky like a long dragon, lighting up the night sky on both sides of the strait, blooming with the same nostalgia for home and expectations for the New Year.
Yang Chaohong's wife Zhu Xuanyu: For Chinese, home is originally a root existence. No matter how far you are from home, it's like a ship leaving the port and still going back to shore. Home is here, and coming back here is the warmest place.
Yang Chaohong, a Taiwanese businessman in Xiamen: The dragon soars all over the world, blesses both sides of the strait, and I also hope that there will be better cross-strait development, so that our Taiwan compatriots can have better development opportunities here. Then more young people in Taiwan can come to the mainland to give full play to their strengths and be able to bloom their lives here.
